Paul was an affable, kind person. I met him in Aldrich Jr High and hung out with him and friends at local Pilgrim High School events. He lightened our mood with a joke in any environment. I just heard of his passing and send my sincerest sympathy to his loving family. RIP

I only just heard of Paul's passing. I grew up with Paul at Wyman and Aldrich Jr. High and always considered him a friend and a good guy in the neighborhood in Gaspee Plateau before my parents moved us to another town. He lived just around the corner from me. I saw hm last at URI years ago but remembered him. Condolences to the family.

Paul Ryder was a neighborhood kid and one of the Gaspee Gang. Paul from Abbey Ave, Chris Dionne from Fair St, Paul and Phil Aubin from Thurman St and many others. In the 50's and 60's we played caroused and carried on as a pack enjoying a great childhood. We all went on to Pilgrim where Paul was a track star and we grew our circle of friends.
After college we scattered and launched our "adult" lives.
Through the grapevine we kept up with each other until facebook gave us a way to connect with stories, pictures and events. I feel lucky to have spent time around Paul as kids and to have kept up with his life as an adult. Always enjoyed photos of Sheila and their kids, watching their travel adventures, seeing the "impact" of his work life and all the ways he gave back and of course we all loved those pix of Paul enjoying a beer with his numerous friends. Thanks for the memories and condolences to Sheila, their children and all who knew and loved Paul.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Paul's death. It's been more than 40 years, but I remember him well. Paul "CC" Ryder was a cool guy and a good guy---a rare combination. I also remember him as an excellent runner, and he was: All Class A in the 1000 (I Looked it up) and a mainstay of our state championship cross-country teams.
It's pretty clear from reading the tributes that Paul's many positive qualities enabled him to become a force touching many lives in both his work-town of Cambridge and his home-town of Stoneham. No surprise there.
My deepest sympathies to my friend Sheila and to the entire Ryder family.

To Sheila, family and friends: Paul was such a kind, welcoming soul who will be dearly missed! It was his doing that welcomed the Andrea Harvey Memorial Fund to join with the Annual City of Cambridge RunWalk not long after Andrea's tragic death in 2005. He understood how such an event could help assuage the tremendous grief her parents experienced, and by so doing, he tapped into the great, caring community that Cambridge truly is. Even after retiring, Paul could be counted on each year to come to the Annual RunWalk to chat with us. On behalf of the Andrea Harvey Memorial Fund, we thank him for his many years of kindness, and along with so many others, we mourn his passing. In the words of his famous namesake: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." May he rest in peace. In Deepest Sympathy, Matt Glavin, Treasurer AHMF

Sheila, family and friends: Dave Gardiner is correct; "Nobody or nothing else was like Paul Ryder". He was a natural leader which explains becoming a teacher. The amount of time he spent volunteering was remarkable but not surprising, a lifetime of helping others. RIP Paul, you were here too short a time, but "done good" while here. Condolences to his family and friends.
