I am very sad that such a wonderful person has passed away at such an early age.

I know Paul as Meg is my cousin, and I can remember the first time I met Paul at a family dinner in Peterborough.

On a cold winter night he convinced us to go into the back garden to see a special constellation in the sky; he encouraged us to look at the sky and appreciate its beauty in on that crisp night.

That was typical of Paul. He had a big, wonderful heart and he had a wonderful life.

Paul loved his family, Canada, and the world around him; in return he was much loved.

My deepest condolences to Meg, Edmund, Elizabeth and Jennie.

With sadness,

Charles Smedmor.

Paul was a good friend during the years we spent together at the Cambridge gliding club before he moved to Canada. It was good to meet him again a couple of years ago and go walking together and so sad to know now that we will never do that again. I'm thinking of all Paul's friends & family and hoping their good memories of Paul will help them through this sad time.

I grew up with Meg in Peterborough, and although I only knew Paul a bit, I enjoyed when he visited us in Spain a few years ago. His intelligence and his curiousity made him very special. My condolences to the whole family, but specially to Meg who always has a special place in my heart and life.

Paul was a colleague but even more, a true friend. We had so many enthusiastic discussions regarding the state of the world at large, but even more we enjoyed talking about our personal lives and getting to know one another on another level. He was a man of great intelligence, knowledge and patience. If you were less knowledgable, he would explain the topic of discussion in terms you could grasp without speaking down to you. He was such a gentleman. I shall miss him terribly, but never forget him. My heart goes out to Meg, Jennie, Edmund and Elizabeth.

This is the biggest loss of our Canadian life. We were fortunate to enjoy friendship of a person of rare intelligence, integrity and passion. Difficult to come to terms with the sad news. I could see it coming, but my mind refuses to accept it. Alexei, Katya and I are grieving together with you, Meg,Elizabeth, Edmund and Jennifer.
