In memory of
Tom Hart

I first met Paul in 1979 when he joined Pogo Producing Company as Chief Legal Counsel. I was Chief Accounting Officer at the time and Paul and I became both co-workers and friends. His intellect was a wonder to behold and his knowledge of nearly everything amazed me. If I asked him a legal question in the morning I would have his opinion either immediately or just after lunch. He was also a wiz at trivia. He eventually became my boss when he was made Chairman, but our terrific working relationship and friendship continued. I retired from Pogo in 2006, but Paul and I stayed in touch by phone. We shared a January birthday and always called to check on each other then and often spoke just before opening day for the Astros. I and my wife will both miss him greatly. Rest In Peace dear friend. What a dear and wonderful friend. I enjoyed our youth together and enjoyed our telephone calls late in life. I will miss him greatly.

I worked with Paul at Pogo until I retired in 2000. One of the first things I learned about him is he had a photographic memory. He was so smart that I just marveled at how fast he could comprehend difficult matters. I considered him my friend even though I lost contact these last few years. RIP Paul!

So many fond memories of working for Paul for 16 years at Pogo. He was an incredible leader and a good friend.

The YMCA is sad to learn of Paul's passing, he was a great servant leader to his community! He will be missed!

What a grand fellow Paul always was and is. I can still hear his dynamic laugh. We all knew how brilliant he was in high school, and it´s no surprise he went on to achieve such stellar leadership positions. I will remember him as a cheerful, friendly force in our BY High class. A ready smile and a guy who was whole-hearted in any endeavor. He has been generous to us through the years of reunions. Even when he couldn´t attend, he sent financial support.
I loved his curious mind, his enthusiasm for learning, his "can do" attitude, and his great wit and sense of humor.
I send sincere condolences to the Van Wagenen family and hopes for peace and strength.
Paul, I think you will be a bright source of energy and goodness in the great beyond. Fly free and unencumbered.
