Paula Ducorsky Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 13, 2024.
Osprey - We celebrate the life of Paula May Scott (Palmateer) Ducorsky, 66, of Osprey, FL who passed from this world peacefully on October 7, 2024, to dwell with God in Heaven. Paula was born on May 27, 1958, the daughter of Paul H Palmateer and Joan VanDeMark Palmateer and sister of Marla Palmateer Monahan. Paula grew up in Wappingers Falls, NY, and was a graduate of John Jay High School as well as Krissler Business Institute. After working for the Poughkeepsie Journal, she enjoyed working with her hands as a dental lab technician at Craig Dental. As a young woman, Paula bought herself a house in Salt Point, NY, that she lovingly refurbished herself through hard work and creativity. There she pursued many artistic hobbies which included stained glass, photography, and gardening among them. Paula always saw the beauty in her surroundings.

In the early 1990s, Paula met Mark Ducorsky, who later would become her husband-to-be for life. As Mark was a pilot, he taught Paula to fly, and she earned her Private Pilot certificate and went on to complete her training and certification as a full-fledged commercial pilot and flight instructor.

Paula then worked with an air charter service at Danbury (CT) Airport. While working there, having previously earned her Real Estate License, she simultaneously worked as a real estate agent. The charter service position spurred her to start her own aircraft detailing company, "Fine Details", which she operated for years.

Paula and Mark wed on a lovely beach on August 25, 2001, and took up residence in Red Oaks Mill, NY, where they lived for several years.

In 2004, Paula and Mark began a new adventure when they moved to Osprey, FL, where they bought their first home together. Mark continued managing his business and together he and Paula purchased and managed a multi-unit rental property for which she played an important management role which included being responsible for all day-to-day operations. While in Osprey, she continued her artistic pursuits.

Mark encouraged her photography talents with his gifts that would encourage her to enter the digital age with all the best equipment, which she enjoyed tremendously. A day didn't go by without pictures being taken. Over time she started submitting her framed photos to juried art exhibitions in Sarasota, Osprey and Venice, Florida, where she went from Honorable Mention to later winning several first-place awards. She was honored on multiple occasions to be asked to showcase her photography at several private exhibitions and galleries, usually reserved for the best professional photographers.

Paula also enjoyed writing. She made treasured cards for her family, combining both her photography and poems. She was deeply faithful and several of her religious writings were published in The Upper Room.

Paula endured incurable Lyme Disease for most of her adult life, which made her continuously more homebound over time.

She brought her green thumb inside by growing beautiful orchids, of which Mark helped her begin a collection of over sixty exotic varieties. She loved watching and interacting with birds who frequently came to visit. Paula searched for ways that she could give back to the community from home. She sewed special clothing for disabled veterans and regularly "adopted a military person" through the Adopt a Soldier program to whom she sent care packages, letters and regularly spoke. She volunteered her computer experience to her childhood church, the New Hackensack Reformed Church of Wappingers Falls, NY, though she was over a thousand miles away, including during Covid.

Paula leaves behind her loving husband and lifelong sweetheart, Mark Ducorsky, her father, Paul H Palmateer, sister, Marla Monahan, brother-in-law, Michael Monahan, nephew Gregory Monahan and wife, Lauren Monahan, nephew Michael P Monahan and wife and daughter, Bobby and Mila Monahan. She also leaves her cousin Rachel Aumick Monqueau and her husband and daughter, Aaron and Caroline Monqueau.

Paula was said by all to be the sweetest person they ever knew.

The family will have a small Celebration of Life gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Hackensack Reformed Church, 1580 NY-376, Wappingers Falls, NY, 12590.
