Paula was the most wonderful lady! She had such style and poise. She was full of good humor and always kind. I was General Counsel to the Utah Legislature and knew her first in the House of Representatives and later the Senate. She was smart, and knew what she wanted. She could get her legislation passed and was successful because of her unique and wonderful Southern charm! We remained friends after we both had left the Legislature. She was a good letter writer and always quick with praise!
I was reading a talk from President Uchtdorf recently and what he said seems to fit your situation.

"In light of what we know about our eternal destiny, is it any wonder that whenever we face the bitter endings of life, they seem unacceptable to us? There seems to be something inside of us that resists endings.
Why is this? Because we are made of the stuff of eternity. We are eternal beings, children of the Almighty God, whose name is Endless and who promises eternal blessings without number. Endings are not our destiny.
The more we learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ, the more we realize that endings here in mortality are not endings at all. They are merely interruptions-temporary pauses that one day will seem small compared to the eternal joy awaiting the faithful.
How grateful I am to my Heavenly Father that in His plan there are no true endings, only everlasting beginnings."

I send my love!

I met Paula when she was working at the Capitol during legislative sessions. She was one of the kindest and most sincere people you could ever meet. She epitomized the term "Southern hospitality" and made you feel like family. I am a better person for having known her.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Paula through The Woman´s Board of Westminster University. She always had a smile and a compliment to share. She was full of smart conversation and wit. She was a class act, someone to look up to. We´ll surely miss that amazing Southern lady.

Paula was a part of our family for over four decades, and her presence shaped so much of my father's life. Their marriage brought him joy, companionship, and a sense of home. I truly believe he loved her deeply.

Paula was devoted to Julie and her boys, and her focus on them was unwavering. She was nana to our kids and grandkids as well. We have many fond memories of family trips and gatherings.

I worked at the capitol when she was a senator. I saw first hand how deeply she cared for the people of Utah and wanted to make the state better. She influenced many lives, and could charm anyone!

I´m deeply saddened by Paula´s passing. She was a dear friend and colleague in the Utah Legislature for many years. She was a wonderful mentor. I will always cherish the memories of our time together. Sending my love to Rod, Julie and all of the family.

The first time that I met Paula was at an Utah Nurses Association conference and she wore a wonderful stylish hat. Hats were rarely seen and she wore this very well. I later worked with her at the UNA and in the State Legislature. She sponsored a bill that added funding to a line item for school nursing that effectively reduced the enormous ratio of school nurse to student from 1 to 9000 to 1 to 5000. She worked tirelessly with UNA members to revise the Nurse Practice Act and it passed. I also remember a bill that she sponsored that would have regulated the installation of water heaters in homes to be set at less than 110 degrees, because of a situation where a baby had been burned in hot tub water that his sibling had drawn for him. It passed the House and stalled in the Senate because the President of the Senate, who was a contractor, said that contractors had too many regulations.

To Paula´s family & loved ones, I send my heartfelt condolences during this time of mourning. I am so honored to having had Paula in my life. I want to share my last letter to Paula:
Paula, my dear nurse friend, colleague, fun loving, walking talking, dancing friend. I miss you already. Recently you said to me, "Well, Sheila, I guess you can say `I led a full life.´" "Well, Paula, those were the last words you so carefully put together for me and they fill my sad heart with love and fond memories." Farewell with love. Sheila Bittle

Julie, Rod, Hank, Peter & Jack,
I loved your mom, wife and Nana. I spent so many times exercising, chatting and laughing with her. I truly think what I loved most about Paula is her wicked sense of humor. She was smart, witty and could always make me laugh. I will truly miss her in the halls and gym at Legacy Village.

Nana meant the world to our little family. From the moment our son Wesley was born, we knew that they had a very special connection. Nana would always threaten me that if I came to visit without bringing him, she would let me have it. She was always filled with grace and patience letting our little toddler run around their place. We will miss her dearly.

My sweet Aunt Paula is beyond Heavens Gates and has found peace. I always admired her for wanting to help others, as I've been reading about in articles recently. I saw this first hand on my first visit to SLC in 1976, when we took food to a homeless camp in the city. My heart is full of memories of all the times my family and I were together with her.

Paula was a dear friend and respected nurse. I worked with her on legislative issues, with UNA and celebrated everything she worked so hard to make life better for nurses and everyone around her. Yes her beloved Rod was a great part her life. May her legacy go on forever.
