Peggy Joyce Jones Boroughs

My mother, Peggy Joyce Jones Boroughs, died 8/17/2019 at the age of 89, in Raleigh NC. She was a good person.

She left behind 2 daughters, Shirley and Sandra, two grandchildren, Becca and Ben, and one great grandchild. She was the oldest of 6 siblings from the Atlanta Georgia area. She was married for 35 years to the same man, Harold Boroughs, until they divorced. She lived in Moultrie GA, Crestview FL, Enterprise AL, Oklahoma City OK, Birmingham AL, Atlanta GA, and lastly in Raleigh NC.

Peggy loved books. Cookbooks, romance novels, magazines, and random bits of everything. My mother loved secondhand stores; I always wanted to look at the knick-knacks, but my mother wanted to look for books. I found out when she was in her 80's that the reason she never attended high school was because one day at school, in 6th grade, my grandmother came into the school, took her out of school, and she never returned. Her father was disabled and my grandmother needed her to go to work to help support the family. Much later in life, my mother earned her GED, and it was one of the proudest days of her life. After my father left her, she learned typing, filing, and general office skills. She had a brief temp job for the IRS but was never hired for a full-time job.

She later moved to Raleigh NC, where my sister lived, where she settled in at The Covington assisted living facility.

My mother was a happy woman, and quick to laugh. Beside reading she loved cooking, root beer, church activities, tending to plants, painting her nails, and travel. She loved her children more than anything in the world, and she always felt that she had a wonderful life.
