Peggy Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 24, 2025.
Margaret "Peggy" Jo Johnson, 81, passed away on March 4, 2025, in Olympia, Washington.

Born on June 18, 1943, in New Vienna, Ohio, Peggy was the daughter of George and Wenonah Johnson. She grew up on a farm at the edge of town alongside her two sisters. After graduating high school, she moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she pursued her education at Dayton Beauty School. She worked as a hairdresser for many years.

Peggy had a keen eye for style and an appreciation for beauty that extended beyond personal appearance to her home and surroundings. She loved shopping for clothes and home furnishings, ensuring that both she and her living space were always impeccably put together. However, her heart always prioritized people and animals above all else.

A devoted animal lover, Peggy had a special fondness for dogs. She always had at least one canine companion by her side and often cared for the pets of family and friends. Her kindness and compassion extended to all creatures, reflecting the warmth she shared with those around her.

Peggy was also a talented baker who took great joy in creating delicious treats. She was always experimenting with new recipes and techniques, delighting friends and family with beautifully decorated cookies and cupcakes. Her passion for learning never waned-whether taking an online baking class, expanding her vocabulary, or watching DIY home improvement videos, she was always eager to acquire new skills.

She is survived by her daughter Tracey Kistner; grandchildren Alex Kistner and Erin Kistner; sister Barbara (Ralph) Mee; nephews Michael (Sandra) Mee and Spencer McMillan; and niece Linda (Kyle) Whited. She is predeceased by her infant son Shawn Amsler, parents George and Wenonah Johnson, and sister Mary Ellen McMillan Free.

To honor Peggy's memory, donations may be made to a local no-kill animal shelter-a cause close to her heart. Her kindness, wonderful sense of humor, and love for both people and animals will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
