Mark,

My deepest condolences on the passing of your Mother. I had her for Journalism at North Hills HS. She made the class so much more interesting with Pens talk. Remember Greg Polis was her fave. That was where I first met you. I know she is in a better place. You & your Mother are in my prayers Mark.

Dear Mark,

My Sympathy to you at this difficult time. I am sorry that your mother had to undergo such a battle over this past year. The love and strength of the relationship between you two must have been incredible to allow her the dignity to be able to be comfortable, at home, during her passing. This is truely an unselfish love between son and mother. Few will take the time and enpower the strength to make this happen.

I met your mother when a few friends begged me to "try out" forensics. From that time on-- a few years, and many tournaments later, I have always been a fan of both speaking and writing. I have been an ICU RN for 22 years now. I have the self-confidence to handle myself in very difficult, thinking on my feet, and spontaneous situations. I have been teaching, also, within my career field for about the last 12 years. Not a day goes by that I don't use all of my speaking, writing, and teaching skills. Your mother fostered that inner-discovery in myself. I still pick up the Time, Newsweek, and Wall Street Journals with the thoughts that I will need to commit as much of this to memory as possible. After all, this could be my next "extemp" speech material. I still enjoy "debating" with others--especially my husband and sons. I still remember my first topic drawn for speaking: "Will There Ever Be Peace In The Middle East?" Although time marches on, some things never change.

My parents were classmates of your mother, at Allegheny High School. My father has passed on almost two years ago. I do know that Allegheny High School produced some really wonderful people. My parents and your mother are among them. I know that the bonds are strong with this school, as we are in the North Hills and Forensic community.

Although I did judge an occasional tournament in the first few years after graduation from North Hills and college, I regret that I did not stay more active in the Forensic playground. I do know that Peggy was a special person, inspiring all that she encountered in the forensic community.

May the passing of your mom be eased with the great memories and love that you now wear in your heart.

God Bless you,

Mark,

I offer my deepest condolences on the loss of your mother. I had the pleasure of knowing her when I helped out the North Hills debate team over several years. Peggy was a great lady and was fun to be around. She obviously will be missed by many.

Mark,

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your Mother. I am a 1981 graduate of North Hills and have known your mother for over 27 years. She was and will always be in all of our hearts. She helped me to achieve great things through Forensics. She had a way of taking an average student and turning them into a champion. Above all, she was a great teacher!!! I will always remember her great love for Public Speaking and Radio Programing. I will miss her wit, her command of of the English languagem, Current Events, and debating the issues of day. Your mother was a great thinker and above all, she spoke her made and persuaded my people to change their minds along the way.

I know she loved you very much and was always talking about you throughout the years. Long after my years at North Hills, I did occasionally call your Mother for personal and career advice, talk about the Steelers or the Penquins. we met the date after my 20th reunion for lunch in 2001 and the last time I ever saw her was at Catholic Nationals in Pittsburgh.

The only thing I regret is that i hadn't talked to her in the past 1 1/2 years. It sounds like she battled over the last 14 months with her lungs.

Above all, your mother will always have a special place in my heat--My mentor, coach, adviser, and as an adult a valued companion and a friend.

Mark,

I was so sorry to hear about your Mom. I enjoyed everytime she came to our office because it seemed I always learned something I didn't know before (No wonder she was such a well liked teacher). She was always kind even when she wasn't feeling well. She has made a positive mark on my life in the short time that I knew her. I will miss her.

Mark,

I wish to send my deepest condolences to you on the loss of your mother. She had a great zest for living that I admired from a very young age. My father coached forensics at Pine-Richland and I met your mother at several of the tournaments. She had such incredible intelligence and a witty, honest, sense of humor. I haven't seen her for many years, but I am reminded of her when I listen to your show. She was truly a great human being.

I had your mother as my English teacher while at North Hills. She was an avid Penguins fan (as I was and still am) as I'm sure you know all too well. We talked about hockey all the time before and after class. She especially liked Greg Polis at the time. I graduated in 1976 and still remember her most out of all the teachers I had. She was a great teacher and will be missed...

Mark,

How shocked I was when I read the emailed headlines of the PG on Sunday. I am so sorry for your loss and the suffering that Peggy must have experienced. We had such a great time the last time together as she was taking us on a tour of the family plots in cemetaries to satisfy my genealogical thirst. At the last one on Mt. Troy she said: I have to go now Mark is on. She was a devoted Mom, a dedicated teacher and coach, and a woman with an incredible sense of humor. We will miss her, too.

Mark,

I have known your Mom for 4 years now and it is way too short of time to know what a dynamic and great woman she was.

She's taught me everything I know about public speaking, speaking your mind, and being headstrong about what you need to accomplish to be successful.

Thanks to her, I want to be a Forensics coach, to teach others what she has taught me. Her wisdom and wit will never be forgotten!

I am deeply sorry for your loss, but you know better than anyone what a wonderful woman she was!

The North Hills Forensics team has you in our thoughts and prayers, and she will always live on in our hearts and voices.

Mark:

I was shocked to hear of Peggy's death. We were so close as kids since we were just about the only "kids" in the family. She always got to be the "High Priestess" since she was older. She was also in my wedding and you and Scott used to play sometimes as toddlers. My Dad's funeral was the last time I saw her. I am so sorry for your loss and mine.

To "My Mark"

It's the way your mom always spoke of you....She was so proud of your accomplishments.

She was my teacher, my coach, my mentor, my friend for 40 years. She loved people in a "sanitary way." And she loved you most of all.

Please know that Stacy or I will do anything we can for you. Know that she lives on in every former "forensicator", every teacher mentored by her, every coach guided by her. Her influence goes far beyond what any of us can imagine.

Mark W. Madden

Dear Mark:

I was saddened to learn of the death of your mother, Peggy Ann Stoehr Madden. During the eleven years I taught and coached at Central Catholic High School, she was assistant and then head coach at North Hills High School. We enjoyed a cordial relationship working on District and National Tournaments and watching talented young people develop their gifts and characters. At times such as these, words are unable to carry the full message of comfort and consolation which we want them to bear, but they are all we have. Having experienced the death of my father in 1995, I am aware of the deep emotions which accompany such a loss. Be sure of continued remembrance of her in my prayers and those of all the Brothers here at Lewis.

May the Lord continue to hold you in the hollow of his hand and may you find his comforting presence in the silent power of prayer, in the wisdom of the Scripture, the nourishment of the Eucharist, the beauty of the liturgy, and in all his holy people gathered round you

to help you.

I join my voice to the ancient hymn of the early Church:

May the angels lead her into Paradise.

May the martyrs come and welcome her on her way

And lead her into the holy city, Jerusalem.

May the choirs of angels welcome her.

And with Lazarus, who once was poor,

May she have everlasting life. Amen.

I close with the traditional prayer which we Brothers have prayed for over three hundred years:

Live Jesus in our hearts--Forever.

With sympathy and promise of prayers,Your Brother,

May 20, 2006

Mark,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
