Peggy McGriff Garner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 1 to Apr. 8, 2023.
February 20, 1951 - February 14, 2023 Orlando, FL - Mrs. Peggy Ann McGriff Garner passed away on February 14, 2023, at Orlando Health Dr. Phillips Hospital in Orlando, Florida. She was the second of seven children born to the late Herbert Andrew and Dorothy Lee Hall McGriff. She was born on February 20, 1951, and raised in Winnsboro, South Carolina.

Peggy attended the public schools in Fairfield County and graduated from Fairfield High School where she was a majorette in 1969. She attended St. John A.M.E. Church in the Middle Six community where she was one of the lead singers - she had such a lovely voice. In 1973, she married Laurie Garner Jr. and settled in Columbia, South Carolina, where they raised their two daughters, Tabitha and Myva, and son, Andre. They would later divorce but continued to love and raise their children. She was a very dedicated mother to her children and grandchildren.

She was a faithful, dependable and devoted hard worker. After graduation from high school, Peggy moved to Alexandria, Virginia where she worked at Southern Bell. Peggy later moved back to South Carolina where she later worked as an extruder operator for Shakespeare Monofilament for 26 years before she was forced into early retirement. However, that did not stop her from working. Peggy went on to work at Little Ones Child Care Center, LLC where she worked as a childcare teacher - she loved working with children. She later started working for Walmart, where she continued to work for 15 years. Later during that time, she moved to Orlando, Florida to live with her oldest daughter. Peggy continued to work until a short time before her illness.

Mrs. Peggy Ann McGriff Garner is survived by her loving children, Tabitha (Keith) Johnson, Myva Garner-Simpson, Andre (Theresa) Garner; her grandchildren, Nicholas, DeMarius, Shailin, Braylen, KaLaurie, Robbie; her great-grandchildren., Cameron, Nyomi, Kacey; her siblings, Larry (Brenda) McGriff, Yvonne (Ernest) Davis, Mildred (Jimmy) McKinstry, the late Eddie Willie (Janice) McGriff , Cynthia (Gene) Turner, Marilyn (Cornell) Hopkins, Sheila Kneeshaw, Quincy Martin and her devoted friend, Henry Gadsden; with an array of nieces, nephews, cousins, other dear relatives and caring friends.

Peggy's Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 8th, 2023 in Winnsboro, South Carolina. It will be held at the Winnsboro Old Armory, 300 Park Street from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.

I know for sure she had held a special place in the hearts of anyone she had met throught her life. Certainly in ours. Momma Peggy, i will always miss your unconditionally given hugs of encouragement, love and acceptance. I will always miss your "as you see it" attitude and will continue to love the legacies you left in my sister Tabitha, Kieth, KaLaurie and Robbie. I will.miss you Mama Peggy. I wish the last time i saw you, wasnt the last time. You gave me a hug and said "love.you baby". I will forever treasure you. No more hurting, no more pain. Rest in peace.
