Perry Arthur Justice

I think of Perry from time to time. I miss his wry sense of humor and golf.

It’s been a year now since Perry ended his journey on earth and embarked on new adventures. I think about Perry from time to time as I always have ever since I met him. During my last visit with him in Boise, when I stayed with him at his house, he was starting to get feeble. He still wanted to play golf so we went out and rented a cart. Perry loved to walk and carry his clubs, so this wasn’t his favorite way to golf but he figured something was better than nothing! We were playing a little slow, so to move things along, I was helping him tee up his ball before he hit it. I later asked him how he liked the game? He said he did not like being babied. This was typical Perry, very independent, proud and stubborn but always getting the most out of life!

I met Perry when we both lived in Challis, Idaho in the early 1980’s. We were both there courtesy of the Cyprus Thompson Creek Molybdenum Mine near Clayton. I was a mining engineer and he taught school. Perry taught me how to golf and pretty soon I was golfing better than he was, he said he was a good teacher but not as good putting it into practice. We bowled together at the bowling leagues in Challis and golfed together for many years after that. We played quite a few rounds at the Meridian golf course along with Perry’s brother Leonard. I moved to Arizona in 1988 and temporarily lost touch with Perry. He knew where I lived and showed up unannounced to visit me in Prescott. In the early 2000’s my business took me to Boise a few times and we played golf and spent more time together. Perry was a poor communicator from long distance and when he moved away from his home and the phone no longer worked, I was very disappointed that I could not reach him. I even tried locating his son in Oregon but had no success. Unfortunately I found out through this notice that he had passed. I would have loved to attend the service which was supposed to be setup at a later date, but perhaps this will still happen. Perry you were the eternal optimist, especially when you kept encouraging me to get on the senior golf tour. may your soul Rest In Peace and goodbye to a dear friend.

As a student in his son Mike's class at New Meadows High School, I had many classes under Mr. Justice and spent time with him outside of school as well. I learned almost a great deal from him in math and science, surveying and even house building. He was the second most influential person in my teenage years and helped make me the man I am now. Thank you Mr. Justice. Rest in peace.

I am so very honored to have spent quality time with this wonderful man.
Although a short encounter of 5 or 6 months, I feel blessed being able to say that we knew of one another.
Going to miss our weekend drives to wilder together along with your wonderful granddaughter.
So many great memories built.
