Pete Rose was a legend of the Cincinnati Reds, the MLB's all-time leader in hits, at-bats, and other metrics. He was permanently banned from baseball after betting on his own team's games while managing the Reds.

1997 I go to a joint Reds-Mets autograph show at a hotel downtown Cincinnati.I take an escalator up to an area the players sign.As I' riding up,I look up and all those riding down and above stare at me with funny expressions.I look to my left and find I stand right next to Pete Rose.He always mingled among us.

September 10,1985 sitting in Riverfront Stadium with my brother and his friend,we realized Pete Rose only batted once more for his chance to break the all time hit record. They sent me to buy tickets Wednesday night. What a long line.No chance tickets would be available for my place in line.Pete Rose went to the plate. The line formed behind the stands.Unable to see half the line emptied to go watch Pete bat.The rest of us stepped forward and locked our arms around each other.Pete made an out.We locked our places in line and I purchased three tickets for the record breaking event as Pete Rose singled to left-center.Thanks to Pete Rose and the line being out of view of his last bat.

Pete Rose as most Reds in the 1960s signed autographs before games at Crosley Field. My Dad bought my younger brother a signature Pete Rose mitt.Pete started to sign the mitt for my brother and my Dad kept saying over and over "That's a Pete Rose mitt,That's a Pete Rose mitt".We never saw my Dad so excited and laughed about it for years. Our Dad a crazy Pete Rose fan.

I was eight years old and playing baseball with my friends at Ft. Thomas Fort baseball field next to the Army Reserve barracks. Two
Army Reservists came over to the field and ask if they could play. We said sure. Later we learn it was Pete Rose and another fellow. What a great man.

You legend you! As impressionable 12 year olds, my friends and I glorified you through your playing career. You were the spark plug to the Big Red Machine and we watched your every move in 1975-76 as you reached for the stars. Your hunger for work ethic drove us all and we cherish you as family. Rest in Peace Charlie Hustle. You are forever endeared in our hearts.

` Charley hustle ` was an excellent example for all ball players regardless of sport! He will certainly be remembered as a problem for the opponents on the field and a leader on his team. A word of comfort for his saddened family and relatives: " And many who are asleep in the dust of the earth will wake up, some to everlasting life. " Dan 12:2. With true sympathies and respect.

` Mr Hustle ` in the game of baseball! He exemplified the importance of attitude and exuberance in the performance in the game, any game!! We were well schooled by Pete. We will , for certain, remember him. These are words of encouragement and comfort: " And many who are asleep in the dust are the earth will wake up, some to everlasting life. " Dan 12:2. Respectfully submitted with deep condolences.

Extremely sad that you died Pete. To me and ALL major league baseball fans you were first time elected & a long time member of the Hall of Fame with your 4 256 hits & 3 World Series rings. Because of you 14 was always my favorite number which was the day of your birth. You inspired to give it my all & always back up your teammates. Read your book WINNING BASEBALL which was beneficial on and off the field. I would still like to see you inducted posthumously in Cooperstown for your son Pete Jr. and surviving family members where you rightfully belong.

I waited tables at a Crowne Plaza Hotel. A mom and daughter came every Friday for dinner. The mom worked at a major hospital in Northern Kentucky. She told me players from Reds and Bengals sometimes visited kids. Some brought media and tooted all horns. Some just visited when in groups.Pete Rose came with a group of players. Before he left he told this woman if you ever need me to visit with any kids, even one, call me anytime day or night. He gave her his personal telephone number. She called. Pete Rose spent hours at a time, bringing hats, balls, gloves. No fanfare or publicity.Everytime she called, he came.

I was a young girl we would go down to what we used to call serpentine wall and we would sit there and we will watch them practice and they would talk to us and joke with us because in that year and time there wasn't body guards or security guards or anything stopping us from communicating with the team and it was something that my friends and I would do on a regular every chance we got we go down there and see and actually at that time Pete Rose lived above Columbia parkway and my friends and I live below Colombian parkway so we would look up over that way and we could see his house and then when I came an adult I worked in a nursing home and I cared for his aunt so it was a little bit of history repeating itself and I was honored so many good memories..

The Hit King forever...Pete you were my idol growing up and have touched my entire life the way you played the game of baseball. I can remember following your career and thinking how cool it was watching the play at 3rd base catching wicked air crashing down at Graig Nettles and Safe was the call. I collected everything Charlie Hustle and always wanted more. Your records are imo forever frozen in time as Noone will come close to 4,256 for many years at least if at all. Thank you for all the memories of crashing into catchers, spiking the ball on the turf and showing the world who Peter Edward Rose the winningest player in all of sports was and is. Rest well Hit King. #14 for life.

Because of Pete I started a lifelong passion of collecting sports memorabilia.Went to tons of games including Pete's first time back with Philly and his statue dedication and hall of fame induction.Pete had one of the strongest handshake grips and shaking his hand was one of my biggest thrills. I met Pete in 2017 (the day before my 22nd birthday) and was in awe when he sat down next to me and asked me how I was doing. I literally couldn´t talk because I was shocked that baseball´s all-time hit king was right beside me.
After we got our picture taken together, I shook his and thanked him because I´d regained my ability to talk.

Pete Rose - one of the greatest ballplayers ever. A guy who showed up every day - and I mean EVERY DAY - ready to play. Great hitter, great fielder (at 5 positions), great team leader. back in 1963 French Bauer Milk had these milk caps of the Cinicnnati Reds. I got a Pete Rose cap and no one really knew who he was yet as he was a rookie. But I thought he was someone to watch and he became my favorite player. No one played like Pete. The first book that he wrote gave me several years of book reports for school! Met him once and he was just as I imagined - what a wonderful person - saddened by his passing.

My Dad took my brothers and sister and mom and I to watch the reds play at their home field in1968, Johnny Bench's rookie year. I remember seeing Peter there and all the great reds players. The old Crosley field was something else with that wall in left field with no stands behind it and it you hit one over that wall. It seems like it would have to go a mile to clear it out onto the street. Several years before that when my family moved to North Carolina in 1962 my dad got Pete's signature when he was in the minor leagues playing a game against the Charlotte Knights AA team. We never did find that signature my dad got that day as it got lost and we never did find it. The old Crosley field is gone now closing in 1970 for the new field at that time which was Riverfront Stadium. The old field was built in 1912 but there were other fields on that spot the reds played on. My grandfather my mother's father (Robert Flynn) was from Cincinnati. I fondly remember stores he used to tell my about how him and his younger brother used to sneak into the old Crosley field by crawling under the center field fence in 1912. I love the reds and Peter Rose and it just won't be the same without him being around. When ever someone mentions the reds I will always think of "Charlie Hustle" Pete Rose. God Bless You Pete.
