I am so sorry to hear about Mr.Atherton's passing. When researching my uncle's 424 Bomber Crew I received so much help in learning about his duties as a bomb Aimer from Peter. We talked several times on the phone and he shared his log book and info on the Oberhausen sortie Nov 1,1944. They left Skipton on Swale 5 min apart but my uncle' QB-K was shot down. Thanks to this wonderful and thoughtful person I have gathered information to pass to our family. Thanks for your service to our Country and rest in peace.

I first met him in the late 90's on my morning walk to work through the UBC endowment lands. He and Geof Durrant would be out for their morning walk and we'd stop and have a chat. Over the years he would check in on me as I helped coach Dunbar Little League baseball and we'd discuss the team and the Bluejays. I can honestly say that I have never met a more warm, cheerful and sincere person than Pete. He always brightened the day. On my drive north each year I often felt like stopping in at Quesnel and Smithers and telling his sons what a wonderful father they had and that it was a true privilege to know him.

I was Mr. Atherton's dental hygienist and was always happy to see his smiling face. I could tell that he was a loved man and reading these comments confirms it. I will miss his bark, but so happy to now have his recipe as Mrs. Fung brought it in for us after attending his service. I look forward to making it, though will miss receiving it from him. My sympathies to his family.

We are so sad to hear the news of Mr.Atherton passing away. He was a wonderful neighbour and I always enjoyed his phone call to let us know that he received our Xmas card. We will miss his smile and wave from his porch. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.

"Pops" welcomed me into his family and into his heart.
He was like a father to me and i'll always remember the times we spent together drinking tea and watching his humming bird feeder...
Rest in peace Peter, you'll always be in my thoughts.

I am proud to have been one of his many friends. He was heroic in war, and in peace a man of integrity, with a great sense of humour always generous and kind.

He always wondered aloud about what the other people at the airport must be thinking and feeling, meeting loved ones at the arrivals gate or seeing them off at the departures gate. He would try to share a kind word and make people laugh, even though goodbyes were never easy. Rest in peace Gramps.

We will all miss Uncle Pete' smile and his sense of humor. He remembered everyone's special days with a phone call or a written message. He was always positive and never let his health get him down. He was the best uncle ever. Everyone of us are better people for having had him in our lives
