TIVERTON, R.I. -- Peter Chaves, 82, of Tiverton, RI, died Saturday at home. He was husband of Angelina (Silvia) Chaves.
Born in Westport, MA, he was the son of the late William Chaves and Mary (DoReis) Chaves.
Prior to her retirement, he had worked as a cook at the Newport Naval Base.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Boehr Council since 1964 and a member of Holy Ghost Parish.
He was Manager of the Little League in Tiverton for 8 years.
He had served as Corporal in the US Army and served with the 280th Engineers Battalion during WWII and the battles of Rhineland, Ardennes and the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Good Conduct Medal and also served in the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons and a daughter, Peter R. Chaves of Fall River, Elaine M. Gaspar of Dartmouth and her fiancé, James T. Harrington and Christopher P. Chaves of Westport and his wife, Jessica Chaves. He was the grandfather of Olivia Grace Chaves of Westport.
