I had the pleasure of working with Pete the Pom back in the 70s early 80s at Solway Service Station in Masterton he always loved a joke and nothing was a problem to him. I learned a lot from him as he was always willing to share his experiences and later in life had the opportunity to watch him acting in the Centrepoint Theatre in Palmerston very talented thanks for the opportunity to know you RIP Pete

With great sadness that I saw Petes obituary. Fond memories of him in Nelson when he had a break from acting and worked with him at a garage working on cars. Saw a couple of his shows at Palmerston North theatre and he was very clever. We both enjoyed a drink or two so Im going to have one in his memory right now. Steve Williams, Brisbane Australia

Oh Peter you made me laugh like no one else. Wonderful memories of yourself and dear Maur and Annie Gardiner in Dunedin at the Fortune. Some of the best years and memories.

We remember Peter as a member of the Featherston Young Farmers Club in the early 70s and when he lived and worked at Tauwharenìkau. Doug saw Peter at the opening of the Kapiti Petanque Club in the late 1990s and still remembers Peter when he drives passed the garage at Tauwharenikau. A great guy. Hilary and Doug Hooper Smith

Peter was a good friend to me. I met him in the 1980s, when he was acting at Downstage Theatre, The Depot, and other venues. There was an instance back then when he was very kind to me at a time when I really needed someone to be kind. I'll never forget that. His empathetic and compassionate side is easy to miss when that genuinely larger-than-life persona of his was front and centre. However, you saw his gentleness and vulnerability onstage - I'm thinking here of The Comedians at Downstage Theatre, of which Peter was one of the ensemble cast. His soliloquy in that play where he spoke about his fears that his unborn son would be well was beautiful, and the word "beautiful" ended that speech. And Peter made it beautiful. My heart goes out to Annabelle, Sarah, and Guy. And to Maureen for whom he had a longstanding connection. I could go on about his good qualities, virtues - and vices, of which I shared many ... So, I'll raise a beer to you tonight, Peter. I just wish you were here to share it with me.

I´m so sorry to hear of Pete´s passing. Meeting him and Gerald at Hataitai Petanque was one of the my memorable life moments. He was always a character who was larger than life, who will be sadly missed.
Go well Pete and say hello to Janet, Daphne, Maureen and Pat in that big petanque piste in the sky.

Sorry to hear of Pete the Poms passing. Bob and I spent a lot of time with him when he lived in Featherston. A Cockney comedian!! Lots of fond memories! Keith Elvey.
