It was with much sadness we read of Peter's recent passing.
We first came to know Peter during a difficult time in our lives. He was an astute, caring Christian businessman about to enter Parliament.
Supported by his lovely wife Margot, he stood to represent the Waitotara Electorate, which, at that time included the areas of Hawera and Marton. Together they were inspirational and most hospitable.
In his role as MP, and Minister of the Crown, Peter worked diligently, always calmly offering advise where it was needed. His constituents in his Waitotara Electorate and noticeably through his southern office based in Marton, and his colleagues, were very fortunate to have his expertise and knowledge.
RIP Peter and Margot. You gave your all.
Please accept our sincerest sympathies.

I am saddened to read of Peter´s passing. He was a real support to me when i entered Parliament as a rookie. He was always ready to give that calm advice that I needed. He and Margot worked as a powerful team in the electorate. Those constituents truely got two for the price of one. RIP Peter.

Peter made a considerable contribution to our country as a parliamentarian and cabinet minister. A great New Zealander. Our thoughts are with the family.

Peter was a real pioneer in developing forests around Whanganui / South Taranaki many now in their 2nd rotation a real legacy.
I was privalged to work with Peter in the mid ninities setting up forest harvests.
I was hoping to attend today's celebration of Peter's life but unfortunately due unforseen circumstances I can't.
My condolences to family you can truly be proud.

A mighty Totara has fallen. Peter and Margot were a powerful and productive presence within the National Party in both Waverley and Khandallah during their many years of service.
I knew Peter as his employee and as my mentor throughout his political career. He was always there to support and guide through the good and more challenging times.
My thoughts and best wishes to his family at this sad time

Adam & Rachael, and Peter's family my sincerest condolences to you all. My employment at Forest360 started with Peter, Mike, Geoff & Bruce. Peter is a true gentleman and honest as the day is long, he instilled in me a work ethic I am proud of. I will miss our chats and our hugs and him recognising me by my hair as his eyesight failed. When both him and Margo came to the office it was always a pleasure. Bruce and I send our deepest sympathies to all of you at this sad time.

Peter was a strong and diligent advocate for Taranaki and the many organisations he was associated with. The family should be proud of the contribution he made to Country and Community.
