Charlene Hoover

HOOVER
An energetic woman has passed from this world into the next after a long battle with Alzheimer's. With a song in her heart, Charlene Sweigart Hoover died as the sun was rising on the morning of July 16, 2014 at the age of 85. A beloved wife, mother and Mee Mee, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Hoover; her parents, Charles and Esther Sweigart; and her infant sister, Sandra Lee. Charlene was born at home in Elizabethtown, PA in 1929 and married her husband Bill from Marietta, PA after he returned from the Navy in 1947. They were married 58 years and had three children. In 1966, the family transferred from Olmstead, AFB in Middletown, PA to Kelly, AFB in San Antonio, TX. She has been at Homewood Residence Castle Hills for the last six months. We want to thank all the staff at Homewood/Brookdale Senior Living and Brookdale Hospice for all the beautiful care they have given our mother. Charlene was very active in the Daughters of the Nile and the Ladies Oriental Shrine and she enjoyed helping the children at the Shriner's Hospital. She loved her Red Hat Society friends and was an avid tennis and bridge player. Our mom was dedicated to her family and was loved by all she met. She is survived by her three children; Gregory Hoover and wife Karen of Pennsylvania, Jennifer Hoover Barnes and husband Mike of San Antonio, TX, and William Hoover and partner Dawn. She has four grandchildren; Jessica Hoover, Will Hoover, David Barnes with wife Amanda, and Laura Barnes Fernandez with husband Carlos. She also has four great-grandchildren; Corbin and Journey Bryant(Barnes) and Carlitos and Elena Fernandez. Rest in peace, Mee Mee. " You are our sunshine, our only sunshine, you make us happy when skies are gray."
Service
The family will receive friends at visitation one hour prior to service with the Funeral Service to celebrate Mom's life beginning at 12:00 PM on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The family will be having a reception after the interment service at Charlene's former home.
