Peter Gundy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 12, 2023.

Peter Richard Gundy, beloved husband, father, brother, friend and colleague took leave of his earthly body on July 27, 2023, engaging in one of his favorite activities, jogging, in a beautiful park, Parc Monceau, in a city he loved, Paris. He was 58 years old and resided in New Canaan, CT.

Peter was born in Ann Arbor, MI in 1964 to Richard Gundy and Guillermina Ladioray Gundy. While home base was Highland Park, N.J., Peter became a world traveler early in life with his family. He lived and attended school in France, Israel and Sweden. His sister, Maria, fondly recalls Peter as a kind, trusting and confident brother who had many successes in school, music and sports. He did well with both intellectual and physical endeavors.

Peter attended Rutgers Preparatory earning high honors in academic achievement and competed in swimming and wrestling. In his ongoing pursuit of physical fitness and leadership skills, he completed the requirements at Officer Candidate School of the United States Marine Corp in 1985. He graduated in 1987 from Rutgers College with a B.A. where he completed work as a Henry Rutgers Scholar in the Department of French. He was a member of The Kappa Sigma Fraternity. In 1992, he graduated from the Yale School of Management with an M.B.A.

Peter had a distinguished career in Global Human Resources consulting and business management. His current position was Managing Director, Transformation, France, at Willis Towers Watson. His previous roles included Managing Director and Global Leader at Willis Towers Watson, Alliance Global V.P. at Nissan Motor Corporation, Director at PwC, Buck Consultants and Compo Consulting Group. He was described as "an incredibly gifted consultant who advised the world's largest organizations on their compensation issues; an astute business leader who could define strategy and dig into operational mechanics; and a mentor who invested in the careers of countless colleagues. He earned a legion of admirers for his intelligence, insightfulness, active engagement, patience and collegiality".

Peter met the love of his life Nancy, and they were married in 1997. Soon after, they welcomed their daughter and Peter's special love, Carmen. He was a devoted and kindhearted husband and father. Peter had a great sense of humor, hilarious at times, quick witted and entertaining. The family loved spending time together with friends, traveling, hiking, skiing, biking, playing games and laughing. Carmen and Peter enjoyed going to spin class and singing in the car together. Don't Stop Believin' by Journey was a favorite.

Throughout his life he was an avid runner and cyclist. Another passion was Aikido. He had practiced for 24 years visiting dojo's all over the world including Hombu Dojo in Japan. He earned the title of 4th Dan (4th degree black belt) with a Certified Instructor title of Fuku-Shidoin in the USAF. He practiced and taught at his home dojo, Aikido of Westchester.

Peter will be fondly remembered as a man of strong character, immense determination, focus and a caring soul always ready with words of encouragement. A man who cherished his family and friends. His sister, Maria, remembers the amount of responsibility he was willing to bear and how he had been compassionate and even heroic in the deed. Peter's star shined bright in this world. He was loved and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Blackwell, his daughter, Carmen Gundy, his sister, Maria Gundy, his uncle, James Gundy, his cousins, Tracey Van Every and Sandy Cerdan, cousins from the Ladioray family, his stepmother Doris Serheev, and his dear pets Dusty and Dixie. He is predeceased by his mother, Guillermina Gundy and father, Richard Floyd Gundy.

I am so sorry for your loss, Nancy, Carmen, and the rest of Peter's loved ones. Peter and I met at Towers Watson and most recently connected when he hired Accenture to help him in France; he was committed to our team's success and treated them with the deepest respect and care. We were also friends. He has left this world too soon, but I know his loving embrace will still be felt. I saw each and every day how much he loved his family.
