Mr. Kapsalis taught our music class in the 80s at Kenwood Academy. I remember how patient he was with me. I played the violin.

So sorry to hear of his passing. My brother and I took lessons from him, and our whole family was at his wedding. As a young child, always remembered the sweetest most beautiful tones that resonated from his violin and his kind encouragement.

I took private lessons from Mr Kapsalis for most of my school years. Ill remember him for his patience and kindnes. May his family find peace in this trying time.

Mr. Kapsalis didn't just influence and inspire the best musicians, he changed the lives of those of us with mediocre talent and less than stellar motivation. I still have my collection of violin pins, and a 1st place duet medal that he insisted I earn. At Lincoln Elementary and Roosevelt Jr. High, his legendary patience exceeded our inattention. I played violin in high school, but never with a director of his caliber. I played for a year in the Milliken University community orchestra and performed in a concert with Doc Severinson and also with a jazz singer my father knew, but whose name escapes me. I struggled to keep up (no audition, just please place me in the last chair), and wondered why in the world I hadn't payed more attention to Mr. Kapsalis when I had the chance, but I thoroughly enjoyed the professional experience. He taught me to read music, and I perform in a church choir because of it. Because of him, I have an enormous love of classical music, the same I railed against playing as a child. I remember Harrietta and her brother, tiny and curly haired with elf-sized violins. Thank you for your gifts of music and patience, Mr. Kapsalis. You enriched my life.

Sitting with Peter in orchestra was a joy and learning experience. I am pleased to have known him as a violinist and person.
My profound condolences.
