An Old story and an old photo - RIP Peter....
Taken on August 13th, 2013.....
I wrote..."So this may be the most meaningful photo I've put on here in quite sometime. Today all in all was a horrible day but it turned out it had to happen otherwise I wouldn't have met this great man who lives on my street. Peter Kapteyn. I was going to see about another job when I saw him doing some yard work so I stopped and asked him if he needed any help and he politely told me he was all set and assured me with a thank you though'. He told me he was about to give up for the day & I told him if he wanted I would come by tomorrow morning to finish it for him for free. He laughed and thanked me again but he assured me he was all set. He asked me my name and I tell him it and tell him that he probably knew my grandparents (I knew he would, everyone did) and he did. We ended up talking for thirty minutes about how he moved from Holland 40 years ago and never left. He kept telling me how much he missed my grandfather, over and over throughout the conversation. But I think he might have saw a bit of him in me because at the end of talking he looks up and says So yeah if you wanted to come by tomorrow morning to help me finish this that'd be great' I said of course and I'll be going by there at 10:30 tomorrow. So all I have to say is if youre having a bad day, talk to a stranger because maybe you both could use a helping hand. You just never know. When I was about to leave I said I kind of have a weird question. Would you mind if I took a photo of you?' He laughed and said not a problem and he struck this swagger pose with the shovel without me even asking. So all I can say is the majority of my day didn't go my way but all in all it was totally worth this great photo and a new friend. Cheers to life"
