Peter Keilbach Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2024.
Peter Keilbach was born and raised in Rego Park, Queens NY. He graduated from Forest Hills High School and then City College of New York (CCNY) with a degree in Electrical Engineering. While attending CCNY Peter signed up for ROTC but was unable to continue his training due to a medical condition.

Peter graduated from CCNY in New York and was recruited by Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles CA. There he learned to sail, sky dive and ride a motorcycle.

Peter met and married the love of his life Lois (Kochevar) Keilbach, and they lived in Woodland Hills CA for many years. He also loved to ski and hike at their vacation home in South Lake Tahoe CA.

Peter's work for Hughes was as an electrical engineer working on top secret missile systems for the military, which he could not talk about with his family. When Hughes (successor company is Raytheon) relocated staff to Tucson AZ Peter moved there and he and Lois lived there for many years while working at Hughes and in retirement.

Peter relocated to Oceanside CA in 2017 to the Ocean Hills Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf, bocce, swimming, sailing, tai chi and numerous other activities.

Peter's second love was travelling, and he visited 45 countries on numerous trips while married and after Lois passed. His last trip was only a few weeks before he passed when he drove by himself back and forth to the north rim of the Grand Canyon from Oceanside CA.

Peter is survived by his sister Jean Larson who lives in Lacey WA and Yuma AZ. Jean and husband Ron visited Peter often and she was always there when he needed her. He is also survived by his brothers Robert Keilbach (spouse Clare) in Queens NY and Thomas Lauri (spouse Benita) in Darien CT and Naples FL. Peter is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Peter had no children and is predeceased by the love of his life Lois Keilbach in 2012. Peter and Lois are buried at the Happy Homestead Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe CA.
