Peter F. Kerttula

Uncasville - Peter F. Kerttula passed away quietly on March 18th, 2023. He was the son of the late Toivo F. Kerttula and the late Virginia R. (Foss) Kerttula. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Judith M. (Fontneau) Kerttula, his son, Kenneth L. Kerttula, Sr. and his wife, Janet M. Kerttula., his daughter Virginia (Kerttula) Magao and her husband, Steve Magao, Grandchildren, Alex Stenbeck, Fiona Stenbeck, Kenneth L. Kerttula, Jr.,Peter J. Kerttula, Abigail L. Kerttula, Grace L. Kerttula and Dylan Magao. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Joseph F. Fontneau, sister-in-law Leslie Paquin, sister-in-law Joanne Cawley, brother-in-law John J. Fontneau and sister-in-law Karen Fontneau.
Peter entered the military (Army division) on January 19, 1967. He completed his time in the Army on January 26, 1969. Peter had achieved the rank of Sergeant E5 when he was honorably discharged from the Army.
After his military time, Peter entered into college life. He attended the University of Connecticut, graduating in 1972.
At the time of Peter's retirement in 2020, he had worked for Electric Boat for 45 years. He was a technical aide in the Material Department.
Peter was interested in numerous hobbies and he had many skills. He built telescopes, which included sanding the mirrors. He also built radio controlled airplanes, remote control cars and ham radios. He also played guitar and was self taught. Peter was an avid Ham radio operator and met his wife at the Tri-City Radio Club in 1986.
Peter also loved traveling, he spent many summers visiting New Hampshire with his wife and children. He and his wife also traveled to Quebec three times and also the Outer Banks of North Carolina to see the Wild Horses and also Chincoteague, Virginia.
Peter was very much a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be very much missed.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Rd., Montville CT. A funeral mass will follow at St, John's Church, 22 Maple Ave., Montville at 11:30am. Burial will immediately follow the Mass at St, Patrick's Cemetery, on Depot Rd., Montville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pete's memory to The Montville Animal Shelter located at 225 Maple Ave., Uncasville, Ct. 06382
