WALPOLE - Peter P. Long, formerly of Norwood and Osterville, Oct. 3, 2007.

Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Butters) Long and loving father of Sarah Long of Lexington, Matthew P. of Medfield, David J. of Hopkinton and Timothy R. of Malden.

Peter was the brother of James ''Dick” Long of Fla. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Long died at the Harrington House in Walpole, after a lengthy illness.

The Long's lived in N.Y. and Somerset County, N.J. before retiring to Osterville on Cape Cod and Walpole in the 1980's.

Mr. Long was a native of Norwood.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the 1st graduating class of Stonehill College.

He went on to receive his Masters in History at Boston College.

He was an avid fisherman who loved Cape Cod and woodworking. He hand built his own fishing boat.

Mr. Long worked as an executive in the shipping industry while living in N.Y. and N.J.

Funeral from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St. (Route 1A) Norwood on Sat., Oct. 6, at 9 a.m.

A funeral Mass in St. Edward's Church, in Medfield, at 10 a.m.

Visiting hours Sat. 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Interment St. Francis Cemetery in Walpole.

Late Navy veteran WWII.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nurse's Fund at Mass. General Hospital, Suite 600, 165 Cambridge St., Boston, MA 02114.

Mr. Long,
Sir, I didn't know you but I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
