Peter was above all else a human being with the heart of a lion, a sincere passion for the gift of forgiveness, a devoted and loving husband, an understanding father, and a totally devoted disciple of Jesus Christ.
In my time in his family I never once saw him angry or unforgiving. I have in my personal memories so many wonderful experiences that I can recall.
One of his favourite expressions when we dined out was 'I've got the meal and the gratuity, and as Joyce and I don't imbibe, you look after that.'
One of my most memorable memories took place in St. Charles PQ where we were treated to a meal by Peter and Joyce, at a quaint little establishment called Kindle. It was shortly after Xmas and we had spent the day cross-country skiing at Mother Parkers Lodge (a favourite Laurentian haunt of Peter and Joyce), the town was just sparkling with snow flake diamonds everywhere in the early evening. Peter had gone to school with the owner. After consummation of the meal the owner came to the table and exchanged pleasantries and advised that he was sending over a complimentary round of "shooters" to top off our meal and would we please advise the waitress of our individual choices, Peter chose a B-52 and I believe Joyce asked for a Grasshopper, when the choices were delivered I announced that consummation had to be done in one gulp. Peter and Joyce both obliged. So there is the measure of their combined character. A totally devoted couple with a generous spirit for fun and merriment thrown in.
I am saddened at his passing, but am also genuinely sure that his soul is safely secure in that special niche reserved and secured by him for his family through his absolute faithfulness, sincere devotion and professional service.
His favourite Hymn "Great is Thy Faithfulness' pretty much sums it up.

Dear Mrs. MacAskill & Family,
We were saddened to hear of the passing of Rev. MacAskill. We remember him with special fondness, especially as he baptized my only child, Daniel Macdonald. (The photo attached shows us gathered around a crying baby in 1977 on the front lawn of Northlea United in Chomedey, Laval.)
We all send you our deepest sympathies and hope your precious family memories bring you comfort at this time & through the years.
Sincerely,
Diana & Dan Macdonald

Dear Joyce,
What fond memories I have of Peter! A faithful friend and man of God. I am so grateful for his commitment to the work of Inter-Varsity among students. He was such a great friend to so many students over many years. Precious in the sight of The Lord is the death of his faithful servants .

Dear Mrs. Macaskill and family, Please accept my husband's and my sympathies in your loss. I used to attend Rev. Macaskill's prayer meetings at the Montreal and Ottawa Conference and found them very meaningful. Rev. Macaskill was so sincere in his faith. My late father-in-law, Lt. Gen.Duncan McAlpine also used to speak very highly of him. Isn't it good that difficult as it is now, to have our Lord's assurance that this parting is not forever. Sincerely, (Rev.) Alice McAlpine

Peter was a fine minister who accepted without question the responsibilities which fell unto him. I used to have to call him every year to accept the role of supervisor for a nearby pastoral charge. He always accepted immediately. It has been a long time since we spoke but I think of him often as a fine minister and a man of principle. His is a life worth celebrating.

Dear Joyce,
My loving condolences to you. I remember how kind you and Peter always were and how you would always drive me and my son, Jonathan, to Cofeebreak at the church. God bless!

Dear Joyce & Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I knew Peter many years ago when he was serving at Northlea and I was serving in Rawdon. May the healing presence and peace of Christ be yours.
