Susan. I'm so sorry. So sorry. I don't know how to reach you, if you read this can you please let me know. Peter was a lovely man.

My husband Fred and I always enjoyed Peter’s upbeat attitude, his sense of humor, and his low-key erudition. He was a wonderful conversationalist, a good friend, and a great addition to our community. He will be sorely missed.

Our condolences to Susie, Emma and Molly for your loss.

While we have not been in touch lately, Rod and I remember Peter so very fondly. What a character .... We still marvel at his ability to speak and regale us with stories in “olde English” and in Gaelic tongues!! Always interesting conversations and lots of laughs too.
Although not close friends, Peter called us several times to offer his help when Rod had knee replacement surgery - a lovely display of his empathy for others. His immense love for his wife Susie, daughters and grandchildren were impressive. As we dog walk and pass by the Macedonia household often, we will keep Peter in our thoughts.

Alexander Pope said "The proper study of mankind is man" Peter was among the dwindling members of his profession who - in what was the past grand tradition of its heroic age - still saw the ultimate pursuit of anthropology as redefining ourselves as humans and humankind on a higher level of committed altruism and mutual respect - through both our understandings and our individual actions.

While we still have a long way to go he, along with dedicated others of his generation of anthropologists - succeed far beyond what should have been expected by their small numbers and only haphazard recognition. He was known and well respected if not among the most famous in his field. But as social scientists know - in terms of actual accomplishments towards a bettering of humanity - progress does not stand as much on the shoulder of giants as on the unrelenting progressive accomplishments of the scholar practitioners who toil in the field.

Till the moment he was unfortunately waylaid by a stroke Peter was still at work , among other things actively contributing to the implementation of the far sighted approach - being taken by the Town of Chatham Police Force - to help addicted individuals find help and recovery rather than condemnation and rejection; while planning to edit a new work of such case studies in medical anthropology.

He did not go " gently into that good night" but, despite all his challenges, remained intellectually alive and vitally engaged to the very end. Supposedly Francois Rabelais's last words were : "I go to seek a Great Perhaps". Peter always sought and shared with others a "Great Perhaps" in his life and now, "perhaps", he is continuing to do so along with Rabelais and other immortalities of similar vibrant ilk.

To our days in the Heights walking our dogs to telling stories of days gone by Brooklyn has lost a Friend.

We will remember Peter for his warm, cheerful, optimistic
spirit. And how he relished a lively discussion!

I knew Peter for many years. We worked together and wrote a book together in the addiction field. He always cared for and fought for for those suffered from addiction, mental illness, poverty, and discrimination. I will miss his good humor and wisdom.

We met Peter in the 70’s, we all became parents together, our children went to school together. Peter was a great father and husband and always had something intelligent and interesting to add to a conversation ❣Peter will be missed.
