Teresa Gutierrez, age 69, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital.
She was born the daughter of Glenn and Martha (Flores) Garcia on November 17, 1951 in Kansas City, KS. She graduated from Lawrence High School and attended Washburn University. Teresa was employed with Kansas Neurological Institute for over 30 years and retired as an Administrative Assistant.
On July 29, 1972, Teresa married Thomas “Tom” Gutierrez in Lawrence, KS. Together, they shared 48 years of marriage.
Teresa was a member of Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church. She was very talented as an interior decorator and was proud of her wreaths, floral arrangements and gardening. Cooking and spending time with family, especially during the holidays was very important. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her beloved husband of the home, Tom Gutierrez; two daughters, Natasha Guerra and her husband Chris, Leticia Anderson and her husband Brian; five grandchildren, Joseph & Carmen Guerra, Tyler, Nathan & Ian Anderson; three brothers, Danny Garcia, David Garcia, Michael Garcia and his wife Esther.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Cecelia Garcia.
Teresa will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Saturday, December 19, 2020 from 3-6:00 P.M., with a rosary at 5:30 P.M. Cremation will follow after the visitation and a graveside inurnment will take place at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.

I loved working with Teresa at KNI. I live near Lawrence and she and I had many fond recollections of her days in Lawrence and walking by her office always brightened my day. I'll be holding the family and friends in my prayers!
