Ol' Pete was, and will always be, one of my favorite people that I've ever had the honor to know. Pete was old-school and the kind of gentleman that is hard to come by these days. My happiest memories of Pete involve him telling VERY tall tales about "F.C.", a small gecko that sit with us from time to time on his back porch while we were enjoying a smoke and a cold beverage. I can still see that smile and hear him fighting back the laughter as he told us of F.C's adventures and the conversations that the two of them would have. Each week the stories would be more and more creative and "tall" and I looked forward to updates on their escapades each time I would visit. His sense of humor and smile was infectious. More than anyone I've ever known, this man was universally loved by those who were fortunate enough to know him. So long, pal. You will never be forgotten.

Pete Newman, our Crocket teacher with a real following, known for his ability to capture the attention of hordes of children for the last period of our days at Crockett. Pete Newman is the teacher we all waited to have in sixth grade. He was Crockett's BMOC and I recall the only male teacher with a classroom. He wore a suit with a skinny tie everyday, always had a wry wit that was captivating, spoke with a soft voice that would quieten even our rowdiest class clowns. He was revered by all of us children. He is still. Mr. Newman, you galloped into the sunset with our love with you.
REST IN PEACE knowing you will always be remembered by those whose hearts you touched and minds you opened. In sympathy, Abbie Thomason

Mr. Newman was a great man, teacher and coach. He was someone that I always looked up to.Our sports teams at Crockett, when I was in the sixth grade, were undefeated, mainly because he inspired us to do our best. I always think of him when I return to Bryan. Roy Chapman ( N. Richland Hills TX)

Mr. Newman was a wonderful teacher--he was an absolute favorite of my entire schooling through college graduation. I am mostly sad because I have been in Dallas since 1972 and had I known he was nearby, I would have gone and told him this myself. Further, he gave me a great foundation for what turned out to be my career. AND I assume he loved animals from the memorial request--that makes him a favorite again !!! He was FUNNY too!!!! To his family, the Class of 1966, Stephen F. Austin High School, Bryan, Texas speaks of him often--and we will NOT STOP!!

Mr Newman was my 6th grade history teacher - and was one of the best teachers I ever had. I was remembering him just a few days ago. I guess that God was honoring me with a lasting memory of a 'damn fine man!' May he rest in peace and be remembered by all

My first coach at Crockett Elementary... What a great man! Mr Newman was a great role model for all who had the pleasure of his teaching. He was always good for a story when I would see him at the airport in later years. He was a large part of my formative years.. a man who touched many...we will miss him...

Mr. Newman was the best teacher I ever had. I spoke often of him to my children when I would read to them. Sometimes they would ask me questions about geography and different countries and I always had an answer. When they asked me how I knew all these things, I would just say, Mr. Newman taught me! Heart felt sympathy from my family to yours.

Although I did not know your dad personally, the stories you shared allowed me to understand what a great and unique person he was. The obituary is just beautiful and I know he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, as well as, friends unconditionally! We are so sorry for your loss and please know that our entire family is thinking of all of you during this difficult time.

Sorry for your loss. I'm Mary's sister and see your face book messages. It's hard to adjust to a loved one being gone. My husband passed last November so I understand what you and your family are going through.

Pete was more than just a friend to us.He was more like family. He took all of the College Station Rio employees under his wing, and we are all deeply enriched because of him.He was the glue that held Rio together in CLL.
You have slipped the surly bonds of earth and will be greatly missed. Thanks for all that you did and God Speed Pete Newman.
