My first memories of Peter are from the 1970
Annual Meeting of the American Association of Law Libraries. I was a new member at the time and Peter came to my rescue and made me really part of the group. During the following few years we worked together on various project regarding law library automation. Peter played a special role in the law library automation conference at the University of Chicago which I chaired in 1971. I have always been grateful for his advice and counsel and am saddened to hear of his passing.

I first meet Peter at a meeting of the Association of American Law Libraries. He was a wonderful colleague. His welcoming style and his love of books and teaching enriched every conversation. His contribution to his armies of students and the donation of his rare book collection to the school will be remembered for generations. The world and his profession are richer for his presence. He will be missed.

My husband, David B. Smith, was one of Peter Nycum's students and I knew him through the library. I was a Reference Librarian at Watzek Library for over 20 years. We both feel the world is not so bright without him. His was unique in his talents both in teaching and making research possible for so many people. Anyone who met him will never forget him.

I was fortunate to have bumped into Marilyn and Peter at a football game recently. He felt good enough to be there to watch his grandson play. It was so good to see both Peter and Marilyn. You too are the best. I am sorry for your loss, Peter will be missed...
