Peter Ramjattan

Peter Sam Ramjattan, best known as Teacher Sam, Mr. Sammy and Uncle Sam led an extraordinary life. He was a hard working intellect who was as charming as he was skillful.

Fortunate to have married the woman of his dreams, my mother Gail Dean, the only woman he ever loved. He was blessed with 3 beautiful children, Samantha (deceased), Tinelle and Timothy, son-in-law Jason whom he loved like his own son, and later on enjoyed life as Grampa to Makylah Samantha and Benjamin.

As a Master Educator in Trinidad, Peter was one of those naturally brilliant people who regardless of context or subject, always contributed to the conversation. Never selfish with his education, he generously gave gifts of knowledge to whomever he met, often over a cup of coffee or at a job site. He poured guidance, instruction and wisdom into every apprentice he was lucky to encounter. And if you are someone who can relate to this, I am sure there's a fascinating story to accompany such memory.

My father was a selfless man who battled illness and heartaches as the years went by, especially in his last year of life. He often spoke of the toxicity in the environment he lived in. That the family he resided with for decades had changed but not for the better. As he laid in the Critical Care Unit of the hospital after suffering a life-threatening event, the same family was continuously emptying out his account of his fixed income to supplement finances as there were no stable employment or income of said family.

My father's last months of his life was rapidly declining by constant stress and poor nutrition administered by the same family who declared unconditional love for him. Shortly before his demise, he was promised to return to Trinidad as his final resting place amongst his mother and siblings, but due to shady transactions leading up to his funeral, they were only prepared to do the absolute minimum and keep his remains at his home. They even refused to submit an obituary on his behalf because they didn't want to mention his children.

My father, such an incredible, funny, brilliant, loving, generous and sometimes crazy man had been such a huge part of my life for so long, my family and I are still healing from his absence but at least his spirit is free and his ascension into the kingdom of heaven will be his forever home. I pray the reunions are sweet.
