Peter was a most remarkable man. He always amazed us with his wit even his most barbed comments were always enrobed in good humour. Taking social ballroom dance classes at our neighbourhood West Point Grey Community Centre introduced us to Peter and Diane. Attending Maggie's dances at the Scottish Cultural Centre further strengthened our ties. It was a privilege to have known you, Peter. And wherever you end up, may you finally master West Coast Swing!

A year ago Peter gave me a copy of his delightful alternate-history novel, "America Under the Mongols"; last month I finally got around to reading it and was captivated by his imagination, his writing and his deep philosophical musings. A few days before hearing of his passing, I sent a message of congratulation which he must never have received. I'm so sorry! He was a great writer as well as a fine physicist and a great guy. I'll miss him!

I recall how supportive Peter was of me when I joined the department in 1973 as a beginning assistant professor. He continued to express interest in my work even in retirement.
I will always remember him as a kind and caring man with a wonderful British wit.
