Peter A. Sabato

Peter A. Sabato, 88, of Dunmore, died Friday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He and his wife, the former Theresa Paoline, would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this upcoming April 28.

Born in Dunmore, son of the late Donato and Catherine Ciaglia Sabato, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School and Temple University, and was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore, and its Holy Name Society. He was a veteran of the Navy, having served during World War II. For many years, he owned and operated Sack's Tailor Shop, located on South Blakely Street in Dunmore, and additionally taught courses in the fashion industry at the Lackawanna County Vo-Tech School. He also served several terms as the Dunmore Borough Controller. Peter was a member of the Rotary Club of Dunmore, the Veterans of Foreign Wars McHugh-Bushweller Post 3474 and the Monsignor Crotti Council of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, spending time with his family and having his Friday nights at Junior's.

Surviving are three sons, Peter A. Sabato Jr. and wife, Kathleen of Olyphant; Richard A. Sabato and wife, Sandra of Dunmore; and Arthur W. Sabato of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Patricia Irwin and husband, Robert of Slatington; six grandsons, Christopher Sabato, Mark Sabato and wife, Jessica; Richard Sabato, Cory Sabato, Matthew Irwin and Stephen Irwin; a great-granddaughter, Victoria; a brother, Salvatore Sabato and wife, Ann of Binghamton, N.Y.; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Vito and Frank; and sisters, Isabel Arinaldo, Ann Ross, Carmella Danzo and Mary Alu.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment to follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
