Phil “Flip” Hochstetler, age 80 of Nappanee, died at 4:45 pm, Friday, January 8, 2021 after a sudden illness last week. He was born July 9, 1940 in Plymouth to Glen L. and Margaret (Hill) Hochstetler.
Phil lived his lifetime in Nappanee. He was a graduate of Nappanee High School and served in the United States Navy. He married Patricia Maust in 1961. Phil retired in 2005 after working 32 years as Superintendent of Nappanee Waste Water Treatment Plant, which has been named in honor of him.
Phil served on the Nappanee Smokey Stover Fire Department for many years. He was one of Nappanee’s first EMTs. Phil had many interests including Hit & Miss small engines, and tractors, also growing orchids and he was a bee keeper. He was a member of Power of the Past and the Nappanee Conservation Club.
Surviving is his wife, Pat; son, Dirk Hochstetler, Nappanee; grandchildren, Douglas, Andrew, David, Cameron, and Chandra; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Steven (Cheryl) Hochstetler, Milford; and sister, Vickie O’Connell, Ft. Wayne. He was preceded in death by a son, Phil Hochstetler Jr.
Family and friends may call from 2-6, Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and for 1 hour prior to the Funeral Service, which will begin at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, Jan. 13th at the Funeral Home. Burial with Military Graveside rites will be in South Union Cemetery.

He will be greatly miss,, I think Flip was the nicest man, such a loving person, very kind and eager to help someone. We often met him and his wife Pat at Burger King,, We were blessed to share our 3 grandsons with them.. We will miss him.

Trish and Family. So sorry to hear of Phil's passing. We will not be able to attend this week but want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Phil was a great guy to work with and I learned so much from him.
