Phil Shoffner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 22, 2025.
Thomas Philip "Phil" Shoffner, age 73, from Royse City, TX passed away June 19, 2025. He was born on December 27, 1951 in Whitsett, N.C. to Lorena Garrett Shoffner and John Thomas "Tommy" Shoffner who both preceded him in death. He is survived by his cherished wife, Carla with whom he shared a deep and enduring love. Phil often expressed how grateful he was for every moment spent with Carla. Together they built a life rooted in shared values and service. A devoted father and grandfather, Phil loved his children deeply, his daughters Amber Gosnay with husband Keith Gosnay and Shelly Myers with husband Jason Myers. His four grandchildren - AJ, Harper, Harrison, and Henry were the light of his life. He adored them wholeheartedly and spent countless joyful hours in their company. He is also survived by two older brothers, Danny and Sam with wife Pat.

Phil lived a life marked by compassion, curiosity, and unwavering dedication to his family, faith, and profession. Those who knew Phil remember him as kind-hearted, intelligent, generous with both time and spirit and always ready with a witty remark or playful joke that brought laughter to children and adults alike. Though naturally solitary at times, Phil had a wide circle of friends who held him in high esteem for his warmth and authenticity.

Nature brought Phil peace and inspiration. He delighted in daily walks outdoors where he could observe the world around him. A devoted birdwatcher, he fed birds regularly and meticulously cataloged each species he encountered. These quiet moments reflected the gentle spirit that endeared him to so many.

Phil's intellectual curiosity was boundless. An avid reader who devoured fiction, nonfiction, and scripture daily, he found joy in learning throughout his life. One of his greatest passions was genealogy - a love passed down from his mother which he pursued with vigor. He took particular pride in tracing his lineage back to Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots.

Phil's Christian faith was central to who he was. Humble, yet passionate in service, he participated in mission work in the U.S., Africa, Mexico, and Central America where he and Carla resided for seven years. His compassion knew no borders as he sought to uplift communities near and far.

Professionally, Phil dedicated over four decades to serving others as a hospital pharmacist. Known for his integrity and generosity in the workplace, he upheld the highest ethical standards while caring for patients. His colleagues respected him not only for his expertise, but also for his kindness and willingness to support those around him.

Phil's legacy is one of love for family, knowledge, nature and service guided by faith. May his memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

I still can´t believe you are gone.

There is a massive hole in my heart that was left behind from your passing. You were a humble, generous man who quietly made the world better. With the birdhouses you built, when you and mom grew food to share with others, made fresh bread and ice cream, and gave the kind of compliments that made you believe in yourself.
All the big ole bonfires in our field, fawning over different birds and bats, all of our laughter, fishing, kayaking, and talking about people with compliments with kindness-especially when they weren´t around to hear it.

I´m so thankful were my dad and if I can be half as good of a parent as you to your grandchildren it will be a win. You took incredible care if us as a family.

Thanks, dad...for everything.

Your love will live on in all the good you gave so freely.

Many an evening meal was shared with Phil & the pharmacy staff at LakePointe Medical Center.

Conversation was always lively...thought provoking...reflective...kind...mostly because of Phil.

Can´t forget the great homemade egg nog brought to Fay Stout´s Christmas parties!!

Sorry we never met up for Taco Tuesday after you & Carla returned from Belize...shouldn´t have put that off.

I know you are looking down and watching over Carla & your family.

Phil was quite the prankster. I walked into my office one morning and he had wrapped all my furniture in foil/cellophane. He was a great pharmacist and great person. He will be sorely missed.

The world lost a great man and heaven gained a Saint. Phil was dedicated to God, his wife Carla, his family and friends. As we served the Lord, Jesus Christ, in Nigeria together you could see his compassion for other by his interaction with them. You will be missed.
