To Phil's families. My deepest condolences to you. I started working as support staff with the Admiralty Section, U.S. Dept. of Justice in Washington, DC in Oct. 1978. Phil would come to our office or be calling one of the attorneys on cases. I loved his joked (some I didn't get), and he always had something to say. I received word of his passing from our former office Director, Gary. What a great man and life he led, and will never forget him. I retired in May 2006 and stay in touch with some from the office.

I worked for Phil in the late 70's while I was in law school a block away at Hastings. He overlooked my modest academic resume the moment he sized up my 6'7" frame and my prospects as a potential pickup basketball teammate. Phil was one of the funniest guys and had one of the most incisive minds I've ever known. He and Jane welcomed my wife Susan and me into their family, for which we have always been grateful. I'm so glad we got to see him and Jane in Las Vegas a couple of years ago after reconnecting through one of his temple/cards connections, my uncle. A lot of people will miss him. I'm guessing that he'd rather be in Philadelphia, but wherever he is, sides are splitting.
