Philip Boudreau Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 22 to Sep. 23, 2009.
HYANNIS — Philip Milton Boudreau, 83 of Osterville, died Saturday at The Pavilion, in Hyannis, after an extended illness.

He was the husband of the late Juliet "Judy" (Newcomer) Boudreau who died in 2000.

Born in Winthrop, in 1926, Mr. Boudreau was raised in East Milton. He was the only child of Gustave and Margaret (Hansbury) Boudreau.

Mr. Boudreau served during World War II in the United States Navy. Thereafter, he graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, moving to the Cape in 1951 to start a private law practice. Mr. Boudreau practiced law in Hyannis from 1951 until his retirement in 2000. He had a tremendous love for the law and a particular talent and drive for legal research and writing. In addition to his private practice, he also served as Town Counsel for the Towns of Barnstable and Sandwich for many years. In 1961, Mr. Boudreau was appointed as Special Justice for Dukes County by Governor John Volpe, where he served until 1979. He returned to his law practice full time and was later joined by two of his sons, Philip and Mark. He also served as President of the Barnstable County Bar Association in 1970-1971.

Mr. Boudreau was instrumental in the founding of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Cape Cod in the early sixties. He served as the bank's president and chairman of its board of directors from its inception until it was merged with First Federal Savings and Loan of Rochester in 2002, during which time the bank provided thousands of loans for Cape Codders seeking to buy their first homes. Throughout his life, Mr. Boudreau was active in his community. Together with his wife, Judy, he was very involved in the Cape Cod Conservatory in Barnstable, contributing to the construction of the music and art center on Route 132 in West Barnstable. He was a member of the Hyannis Kiwanis Club, the Osterville Men's Club and Past Commander of the Dennis F. Thomas VFW Post 2578. Mr. Boudreau was also a longtime member of the Hyannisport Club and the Hyannis Yacht Club.

Mr. Boudreau had an unquenchable wanderlust and traveled throughout the world with his wife. He was also fortunate to share many overseas trips with family and close friends and he especially enjoyed traveling to France. He was an avid tennis player and a voracious reader. He also had a passion for history and genealogy. Mr. Boudreau was an accomplished jazz pianist who for a brief period during his college days performed professionally at the Nimrod Club in Falmouth and the Chatham Bars Inn in Chatham.

He is survived by his four children, Philip Michael Boudreau (and his wife, Alexandria "Sandy") of Centerville, Robert P. Boudreau, of Roselle Park, New Jersey, Mark H. Boudreau (and his wife, Diane) of Centerville, and Anne M. Boudreau, of Mashpee; and five grandchildren, Alexandria, Brendan, Nicole, Emma and Grace. He also leaves his cousins, William L. McGrath, of Wellesley Hills, Richard I. Mather, of Williamsburg, Va., and Alice Cogliano, of Wollaston.

The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to those individuals who provided care and comfort to Mr. Boudreau over the past six years.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills, MA 02648.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, in Osterville. Burial will follow immediately thereafter at the Mosswood Cemetery, in Cotuit.

Memorial donations may be made to CHAMP Homes, 82 School Street, Hyannis, MA 02601, or the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music & Arts, 2235 Iyanough Road, West Barnstable, MA 02668.

Phil, Mark, Anne, Bob and everyone in the Boudreau Family - I will always remember your father/grandfather as one of the most intellectual and accomplished persons I have ever known. So many of the conversations I had with him over the years left such an impression with me - I think of these conversations
often and will always remember him for taking the time to enrich my life.
Truly sorry for your loss, with love, Alicia
