Philip T. Briggs

Philip T. Briggs, 81 years of age, passed away at the Guardian Center in Brockton on Monday, June 6, 2016. He was a marine biologist who had been employed for many years by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. He had been involved with the fisheries in New York and with lobster fishery and later blue crabs. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts and subsequently began a tour of duty for the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Fisheries Society, New York Chapter and a member of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. He enjoyed traveling to China. He is survived by his brothers, John Briggs of California and David Briggs of Chicago. He was the brother of the late June L. Harrington, formerly of Brockton, Clifford E. Briggs Jr., formerly of Holbrook, Kenneth Briggs, formerly of Hyde Park, and Grace Briggs, formerly of Tennessee. Philip is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. There will be a gathering at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree, Friday, June 10, at 11 a.m. to be followed by a graveside service at 11:30 at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
