Dr. Philip Lesley Cumbia

Ms. Cumbia,

I was so saddened by the passing of Reverend Cumbia. (Dr. Cumbia) He married me way back in 1969 at Deep Run Baptist Church. I have been attending First Baptist for the last 2 months and had just a month ago asked about you and Dr. Cumbia. The person I spoke with told me he had been real sick. I am so sorry and my prayers go to you, Dean and Alan and family.

Such wonderful images and thoughts immediately come to mind when we think of you. Some people in this world you cannot forget and you and Phil are definitely on top of that list. We hold your friendship close and are blessed to have had you in our midst.

I remember Rev. Cumbia when he was at Nomini Baptist Church. He spoke to my graduating class at Washington and Lee High School and I was so impressed with his quiet

and compassionate nature.I recently

loss my husband of 42 years so I can

relate to the loss of a loved one.

Max, I was deeply saddened to learn about Rev. Cumbia. He was extra special to my family and me. I remember so well the day he baptized me in the Rappahannock River. I also remember the wonderful times my family had with him when he first came to Nomini Baptist Church. He always had such a loving smile. He will be truly missed by all. You and your family are in my prayers. I am so glad you two got to visit with Mother. She is 92 and continues to inspire me with her life.

I was shocked to read this sad news of Mr. Cumbia's passing. My life has been so blessed in having him and you all in my life. He was one of a kind. I love you all and he will be sadly missed. I remember fondly all the times at Deep Run and the sleigh riding in the winter and painting the barn and feeding your cats. Bible school at Deep Run and I could go on and on.

Rev. Cumbia was the salt of the earth and it was always a delight to see him and talk to him as he was so very kind and gentle with his words. He will surely be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

As my husband, Kevin, and I celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary this year (and on every anniversary thereafter), we will think fondly of Dr. Cumbia, who performed our marriage ceremony and was such a gentle soul. We are truly blessed to have known him.

What a blessing it was to know and have Mr.Cumbia as my minister at Deep Run Baptist Church, to guide me through my teenage years! Then to marry me! TO Mrs Cumbia and family my thoughts and prayers are with you. God be with you and bless you during these difficult times.

Dr. Cumbia performed the funeral services for both my father and mother and I'll never forget how his gentle kindness and steadfast faith helped ease the pain of their passing. He was a true Christian. God bless your family.

Wayne and I have been so very blessed to have had you and Phil to have crossed our paths of life. Both of you have always exemplified an example of how to live as one of Christ's followers. The sincere interest Phil and also you Max always show even in brief periods of seeing either of you, the kindness that is always present, the soft touch of a caring and loving human being reaching out to others...both of you portray all of these traits and more. The two of you have made such a shining example of husband and wife, confident in your mission of life...and showing...and living your love of God. Dr. Cumbia was a great man, he laid to rest my father and recently my mother, how blessed we all were to have that and it meant so much to all of us that he did such a thing with his illness. I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Cumbia's passing. He meant so much to our family . All of us are enriched for having known him.

Pastor Cumbia may have passed from this earth, but not from my heart. My entire family loved him.
