Hey Phil,
Still think of you often and all of the great times we had together back in the 70's! So many laughs!! I'm glad we were able to connect via FB before you left us, but I miss the conversations we would have had and would have loved to have met up with you.
Bob and I talk about you often and how much your missed. Give em hell up there!
Take Care buddy....

I was in Florida attending to my own mother's death and its aftermath when I heard of Phil's passing due to this tragic accident.

As a fellow motorcyclist, I am always saddened to hear of another cyclist who has succumbed to a two-wheeled tragedy, and this one is no different. I have, unfortunately, lost several friends this way. By no means do I believe that our desire to live our lives fully, enjoying our sport and passion, is responsible for our demise.

I recall my days with Phil, meeting in the smoker's area at PSEG for a quick cigarette break and some of the many discussions we had before I retired. It was always a means of bonding and developing a friendship as an "outcast compatriot" since so few of us still smoked.

Phil, may you rest in peace. My condolences to the surviving family members. Keep Phil close in your hearts forever.

Sue, Phil, Thomas and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I was a co-worker and friend for many years and truly enjoyed every time our paths crossed. I routinely passed by his office and frequently stopped in for a brief chat where it always involved some joking back and forth. I recently retired but we had emailed a couple of times so I just heard about this horrible tragedy today. My thoughts and prayers are with you and pray your memories will help you through this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers are with Susan, Phil and Thomas during this very difficult time. May you experience God's comforting presence.
Phil was a coworker and friend. He was always upbeat and kind. The type of leader we all can look up to. Whenever I remember times with Phil, I smile. Thank you Lord, for putting Phil in my life.

I am sorry for this loss. Phil was my Navy roommate back in Winter Harbor Maine in 1980, going to technical training there, when computers were still new. Phil loved it up there. He would sleep with the window open to hear the ocean waves hitting the nearby rocks, never mind it was 30 degrees outside. That and many other things showed me his love for life seemed to be never ending. He was our informal leader. A few years later, still in the Navy, we reunited in Scotland and he was quick to show me around the base with that same energy and love for people, as always, an informal leader with passion for people.

I lost touch with him years ago. The other pain I have is I drive by Bear, Delaware on I-95 all the time...had I known my old friend was so close and with a loving family I could have met...it is a regret I will always have.

Reading the various statements about him makes me understand the youthful energy never left him. God Bless Him and His Family.

This is so sad. I choose to remember how much fun you were, to work with, to watch our kids play hockey, and to just hang out with. Phil, you left a great impression on many people, and you will never know how influential you have been; on your sons, and everyone else you interacted with. I have never seen you express negative opinions about others, and will try to model that. You will live on, in your sons, and in everyone you touched.

Tom MacEwen, friend and co-worker.

God Bless you Phil, may you rest in peace with the Lord in Heaven.

Very sorry to hear of your loss and Phil's very sudden passing. Phil always had a kind and witty sense of humor, which I enjoyed. I used to stop by his desk at work just to have witty and carefree conversations about almost anything. Phil was a very smart and interesting person. I will miss these visits and him tremendously. May God bless his wife and family with peace and love. Steve Smith (NOS)

I have known Phil for quite a number of years from working at PSEG and you couldn't have found a nicer person and a pure gentleman. If Phil was around when we were getting ready to go through a door, he would stop us from touching it and said "Hey that's my job". He always opened the door for us women. In the same token, he opened our hearts and he will also be there with great memories and the laughter we had out on the smoke pad at work. He was always smiling and always talked about his wife and sons. Please know Susan and boys that you are in our hearts and prayers now and always.

I have worked for Phil for the past 8.5 years. He was an incredible boss... fair, fun, reasonable, and many other positive things. He loved his family and always encouraged us to take the time to be with ours. I too ride a motorcycle and we would talk about that from time to time. The world was a better place with him in it. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and all those who called him friend.

Phil was a great friend to me back in high school and I have so many great memories of just hanging out together. So many laughs....he was my best audience! Anytime I hear Jethro Tull or Led Zeppelin, I immediately think of him.
My thoughts are with the entire Hastings family. I know with all the great memories Phil provided us throughout his life and all the people he touched, this is what will get us through this very difficult time.

As a co-worker and friend, Phil and I shared many good conversations and laughs together in the several years that we knew each other at work. Phil never seemed to have a bad day on any day that I saw him and I always felt he made my day better. My deep condolences to his family. I have to believe everyone who knew him is poorer today for his loss.
