PHILIP LOMBARDO Obituary

LOMBARDO, PHILIP Philip Lombardo, 67, of Wetmore Place in Middletown, beloved husband of Diane (DiStefano) Lombardo, died Monday November 3, 2014 at Waters Edge Health Care in Middletown. He was born in Melilli, Sicily, son of the late Carmelo and Rosa (Pantano) Lombardo. Philip was a mason for the City of Middletown in the Department of Public Works. He was a referee for high school soccer and youth soccer, as well as a coach for youth soccer. He was a member of Connecticut Coastal Valley Soccer Officials Association and was former president and lifelong member of the Garibaldi Society, now known as the Italian Society of Middletown. Besides his wife Diane, Philip is survived by his sons Carmelo Lombardo and his wife Jennifer, Michael Lombardo, his twin brother Joseph Lombardo and his wife Frances, grandson Jonathan Lombardo, two nieces Nicole Davis and Roseanne Lombardo, nephew Carmelo Lombardo and his wife Ann, in-laws James and Patricia Barone and his extended family. Funeral services will be held Friday (Nov. 7th) at 9:15 a.m. from Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Sebastian Church, Middletown. Burial will be held in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home. Diane and Family,
So very sorry to hear of the passing of one of my good friends, Phil. I first met Phil when he coached my sons soccer team and the kids learned how to win as well as loose. Phil was a great teacher of the game. I was very fortunate to have Phil as a strong supporter during my years as a Councilman and I will never forget all the hard work he did for the Party. May the good lord be with the family at such a time as this.

I remember Phil when I was with the Fire Department. We had a lot of fun when we were demolishing and rebuilding the Communications Center. I'm pretty sure that we demolished more than Phil wanted to rebuild, but he never said anything. I think of him often. My sympathy to the family. Rest well my friend, you deserve it.
