Philip O'Connor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 2, 2024.
The most interesting man in the world has written his final chapter this side of Heaven. Philip John O'Connor went home to his Savior on the 8th of May 2024 in the Gold Coast, Australia. His life will be celebrated at First Baptist Lafayette on June 13, 2024 with visitation from 9-10, services at 10, and a small reception following the services until 12:30. If you join us, wear your favorite color to share in this special celebration.

Philip was born on 22nd of October 1948 in Archevale, Winton, Australia alongside his twin brother, Peter and was joined by his younger sister, Susan, just a few short years later. His early years were spent on a sheep station in the Outback before moving to "town" to assist with his family's cattle property. At the young age of 15, Philip left home to begin a long career in the drilling industry, exposing him to adventures all over the world. He has been a part of many aspects of the Oil Industry, designing and filing a patent for a Rigless System, performing fishing operations, and owning and operating U.S. Oil Services. He completed his career in sales for M&M Oil Tools.

Despite an incredibly successful career, his greatest achievements and success were found in his title of PJ. He was a wonderful Father, but nothing compared to the joy that he received as grandfather to his 3 grandchildren. His days were spent investing in the activities at Cathedral Carmel, St. Thomas More, and Jill Listi Dance Centre. He loved to be a part of every day of his grandchildren's and their friends' lives. He was their biggest cheerleader and his presence will be forever felt wherever they are, complete with a video camera.

Left to live out his legacy are his wife, Joyce, of almost 52 years; his daughter Brittany (Justin), Connor, Patrick, and Caroline Emerson; twin brother Peter; sister Susan Evans (Colin), nephews Zachary (Emelie) and Joshua Evans; brother-in-law Drake Trahan (Ann), and niece Shawn Trahan (Blake); in-laws Don Emerson (Susan) and Julie Emerson.

He was greeted in heaven by his parents, Patrick and Patricia, his in-laws Leo and Beatrice, his niece Shannon, and best friends David Buck and Ian Hofmeier.

Honorary pallbearers are Justin, Connor and Patrick Emerson, Zachary and Joshua Evans, Bert Blanchard, Kenny Langley, Casey Arceneaux, Keith Reed, Danny Jones, and the STM Cougar Football and Lacrosse teams.

In lieu of flowers, please tithe to your local church or donate to St. Jude in Dad's honor. He was faithful in both. Dad's life was defined in love and sacrifice in service of others. He LOVED Jesus and we can rejoice that he is with his Savior dancing on streets of gold. To honor PJ, bow your head and get to know Jesus today. Don't wait. Hug your favorite people and tell them that you love them. Twice. Step out of your comfort zone and take an adventure. Set monstrous goals and crush them. Help out someone in need either financially or with a listening ear. Tell us your favorite PJ story or ask us ours. Make each moment of each day count, for tomorrow isn't promised, and maybe capture it on video

Met Phil while I was working for Petroleum Equipment Tool Company (PETCO) and Weatherford Intl. Spent many hours communicating with Phil whether it be work related or simple conversation. One of the most delightful men I have ever met and I cherish time I had to know him. His passing leaves a deep hole in my heart and I will miss him.
