June 22, 1937 - October 18, 2023

LINCOLN, MA - Philip "Phil" Pressel, 86, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023, in Lincoln, Massachusetts. He was born on June 22, 1937, in Antwerp, Belgium, to the late Miriam and Joseph Pressel. Phil, along with his parents, sought refuge in France during World War II, where they were sheltered by the Sabathiers, a compassionate Catholic family in Vourles. After the war, the Pressel family immigrated to New York, where Phil attended Stuyvesant High School, NYU, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Phil dedicated his professional career to mechanical engineering, primarily at the Perkin-Elmer Corporation, where he contributed to top-secret programs. His most notable achievement was designing the cameras for the Hexagon Spy Satellite. Phil's passion for his work was evident, and he found great fulfillment in sharing his knowledge by speaking to groups about the Holocaust, the Hexagon satellite, and his experiences designing instruments for space.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Pat, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love. He had four children: Allan, David, Linda, and the late Stephen. Phil also had six grandchildren: Robert, Adam, Austin, Julia, Zachary, and Elliott.

Retirement brought Phil immense joy and allowed him to pursue his other passions. He authored two books, "They are Still Alive," a biography, and "Meeting the Challenge," a book about the Hexagon satellite. Phil also enjoyed officiating Track and Field meets, traveling, and swimming. His zest for life and kind-hearted nature left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Phil's final days were spent at Care Dimensions Hospice House, where he received compassionate care from dedicated individuals. In honor of his memory, donations can be made to Care Dimensions Hospice House at 125 Winter Street, Lincoln, Massachusetts, or to a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Virginia at a later date to commemorate Phil's remarkable life and the impact he had on those around him.

Phil Pressel will forever be remembered as a kind and compassionate man, leaving a legacy of love and kindness in the hearts of all who knew him.

My sincere condolences! I worked for Phil for a very brief time, from 1996 to 1998 at Barnes Engineering / EDO Corporation, but he left an indelible impression on me and to this day he still ranks as the best Supervisor I´ve ever worked for.

I knew a lot about Phil as shared by his wife Pat...from then time they met until their marriage and after. You both were very in love and compatible with many similar interest. I spoke with Phil on a few occasions with my sturggles with Ulcerative Colitis and his, with Crohns (similiar illines) and how were were coping and living our life's to the fullest along with these healthy challenges. Have not talked to you or Pat in serveral years but hope for the most part, they were enjoyable and filled with adventure. My sympathies with Pat and hope the many years you 2 had together will give her solace as the years pass. Regards, Lenny Bennett..former teaching colleague of Pat in Fairfiled.

I teamed up with Phil to present the story of the Hexgon satellite. He designed the camera system. I was an Air Force Officer at the control center for the classified satellite. We gave presentations to a wide variety of audiences in the last few years. I'll miss him dearly. R.I.P.
