COOK, Phillip Lewis

80, of Cornelia, GA formerly of St. Petersburg and Lake City, FL, passed away Dec. 31, 2015 at his home. He was born in Hillsdale, MI Aug. 2, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis R. Cook and Mary Cook, and his brother, David Cook. He served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Pace University in New York. Phillip had a distinguished banking career beginning at the Bank of New York. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1963 and began working at City Bank n/k/a Suntrust Banks; also at Rutland Bank, First Gulf Bank, Bank of St. Petersburg, Marine Bank, and retiring in 1997 from Amsouth Bank. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of St. Petersburg yacht club. He is survived by his wife, Susan Gasperin Cook; his sister and best friend, Sharon Archambeault. He was a devoted father to his son, Phillip A. Cook of St. Petersburg; his daughters, Karen Thomas (Tony) of Roseville MN; Allison Cook (Mark Cross) of Clarkesville, GA; and stepsons, Shane Sokol (Marie) of Charleston, SC and Kyle Sokol (Cathy) of St. Petersburg. He has eight grandchildren. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 7, from 1 pm until service time at 2:30 pm. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
