Phillip Allen Levitz

Phillip Allen Levitz, 78, of Coral Gables, Florida passed away in South Miami, FL on January 21st after a brief illness. Phillip was born in Lebanon, PA to Ralph and Mary Levitz in 1937. He attended the Peddie School, Princeton University and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. After attending the Army Language Institute in Monterey, California, he served in the US Army based in Japan. Phillip married Margaret Levitz of Montclair, New Jersey, and together they had two children, Alan and Wendy. He worked as Executive Vice-President of the Levitz Furniture Company and then later co-founded the Roomstores of Arizona. His wife Margaret passed away in 2000. Several years later he married Angelica Gustafson. He enjoyed boating and flying planes and, in his later years, loved doing crossword puzzles and playing cards and golf. Phillip was an avid reader and loved learning about animals, history, and cooking. He was known by his many friends and family members for his great sense of humor and his gentle kindness. Phillip is survived by son Alan, daughter-in-law Elaine, daughter Wendy, son-in-law Sanjiv, wife Angelia Gustafson, and step-daughter Marisa Gustafson. He is also survived by five grandchildren and numerous family pets. He will be terribly missed. A memorial will be held at the Kampong of the National Tropical Botanic Garden at 2 p.m. on Saturday March 5th, 2016. Donations in his honor may be made to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Greatest Need Fund or to the Children's Bereavement Center of Miami.
