St. Marys Phyllis Dayle Combs, 86, died at 10:15 p.m. Feb. 28, 2012, at Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Community, St. Marys. She was born Nov. 11, 1925, in St. Marys to James R. and Nina May Hammond Irish, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 24, 1944, she married Robert C. Combs Sr., who preceded her in death. Mrs. Combs was a graduate of Blume High School, Wapakoneta, now Wapakoneta High School. She was a homemaker and had operated the Motel LaBelle, Sidney, along with her husband. They moved to Kill Devil Hills, N.C., where they owned and operated a bed and breakfast until her husband died. She then moved to Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Community, St. Marys. She attended Shawnee Community of Christ. She enjoyed genealogy, writing and working with flowers. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include a daughter, Susan (Don) Deitsch, of St. Marys, and Robert (Kaye) Combs II, of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandsons, Bret (Theresa) Combs, of Celina, Lisa (Kriss) Schmidt, of Middletown, Darin (Tracey) Deitsch, of West Harrison, Ind., and Jeff (Teresa) Bruns, of Springboro; 10 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Kadyn Schmidt, Drew, Jace and Tate Bruns, Mackenzie, Clayton and Olivia Deitsch, and Amanda and Bryan Combs; a sister-in-law, Donna Dearbaugh, of Wapakoneta; two half brothers, William Joe (Mary) Irish and James (Barbara) Irish Jr., both of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Combs; a brother, Robert Irish Goodwin; three half brothers, Jesse, Patrick and Franklin; and two half sisters, Juanita and Rosie. Services will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. Elder Robert Deitsch and Elder Dave K. Scott will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Shawnee Community of Christ or Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Community. Condolences may be expressed at chiles-lamanfh.com.
