Phyllis Dorsey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 30, 2011.
Dorsey, Phyllis M. age 84, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 25, on the grounds of her Bloomington condominium complex. She had lived a full, healthy life with family, friends, career, and many varied interests. Phyllis was born June 9, 1927 in Montevideo, Minnesota, the third child of Catherine (Huberty) Dorsey and Michael Joseph Dorsey. She attended Montevideo schools, graduating in 1945, and was active in church and school activities and working part-time at the Hollywood movie theatre. Arrangements for burial are with Gill Brothers Mortuary in Bloomington and Wing-Bain Mortuary in Monte- video. Phyllis' life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM on Thursday, November 3rd at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church at 9900 Lyndale Avenue South in Bloomington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Nativity. After high school graduation, Phyllis began working with Northern States Power Company in Montevideo. She followed this career path to LaCrosse, Wisconsin and to Minneapolis and was the executive secretary to a vice-president of the company for many years. Before she retired in 1985, she acted as a legislative lobbyist for Northern States Power. Her interests were many. Phyl always loved a party and she was a gracious guest and generous hostess. She enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Twins fan. Wrapped in stadium blankets and sleeping bags, she was a 50 yard line season ticket holder for the "outdoor" Vikings. Phyllis enjoyed traveling with her friends and family and took many trips in the States and out of the country. She was very active in the Minneapolis Secretaries Organization, the NSP Retired Employees Association, volunteered with projects at Nativity Church and was devoted to her volunteer activity at Bridging. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Regina Larson and brothers, Joseph Dorsey and John Dorsey. She is survived by her brother, David Dorsey (and DeeAnna) of Willmar; sisters-in-law, Beverly Dorsey of Blaine and Beverly Dorsey of Bloomington. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Phyl will be lovingly remembered by them, many friends, dear neighbors and the entire Dorsey Family. www.gillbrothers.com Bloomington 952-888-7771

Phyllis will be missed at our NSA Retired group luncheons. We were just together October 19 at lunch and she sat next to me. We had a nice visit and I introduced her to a new Pinot Gricio wine. God Bless you and Phyllis will be in our prayers.
