Phyllis Mattes

Phyllis A. Mattes, 79, of Newark, passed away November 5, 2022. Phyllis was born December 28, 1942 in Portsmouth, OH to Earl and Christine (Allen) VanDyke. She graduated from New Albany High School in 1960 and from Central Ohio Technical College with an associate's degree in counseling in 2003. Phyllis was a rural postal carrier for over 35 years. She was involved in Alcoholics Anonymous as a speaker for them state and nationwide, the Red Hat Society, Ski Club, Ohio Eastern Star and The Main Place of Newark. Phyllis will be deeply missed by her; children Toni (Paul) Grice, Larry II (Susan) Mattes, Kim (Ken) Havice; grandchildren Amanda (Brad) Pausley, Joshua (Ashley) Grice, Larry III (Terri) Mattes, Gabe Havice, Kelsie Mattes, Bailie (Tim) Hamilton; great-grandchildren Kaci, Ava, Hailey, August, Roman, Jane, Tommi, Charli, Kodi, Noah, Weston; brothers David (Linda) VanDyke, Greg VanDyke; sister Sherry (Gary) Snowden along with many other family and friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 1pm until the time of service at 3pm at Johnstown Independent Baptist Church 7397 Johnstown-Alexandria Rd.
