Phyllis D. Munson

MUNSON, PHYLLIS D. Phyllis D. Munson, 88, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford with her family at her side. She was born on October 31, 1924 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to the late Jennie (Schafer) and Walter Dech. She grew up in Highland Park, NJ and graduated from Rutgers/Douglass College with a degree in journalism. Her first job was writing the company newsletter for American Cyanamid in Bound Brook, NJ, the perfect position for friendly, easy-to-talk-to Phyllis. There, she met her husband, Dewey, through their shared interest in bridge. This October, they would have been married 64 years. Phyllis and Dewey moved to Cheshire, CT in 1955. She worked for Yale University, first in Human Relations Area Files and then in the Alumni Fund, retiring after 25 years of service. Phyllis loved bridge, reading, dogs and cats, the Jersey Shore, and Cape Cod. She was active in the Cheshire Community Theater and later the Cheshire Women's Club, writing the newsletter for several years. Phyllis and Dewey moved to Ashlar Village, Wallingford, CT, in 2007. She is predeceased by her son, John in 2007, by her sister, Elinor Gilbert of Highland Park, NY, and her twin sister who died in infancy. Phyllis was a DAR, Daughter of the American Revolution (Private Peter Laufer). She is survived by her loving husband, Dewey, daughters, Jeanne (Peter) Sosnow of Niskayuna, NY, and Amy (Carl) Wilson of Sharon, CT, grandchildren, Sara, Emily, and Molly Sosnow, and Lindsay and Ryan Brightman, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the kind and dedicated people at Masonicare Health Center and Masonicare Hospice for their support. Funeral services will be private. Please join the family for an informal gathering to celebrate Phyllis' life on Sunday, September 22, from 1 to 3 in Ashlar Village Auditorium C.
