Phyllis Ruegg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 15 to Oct. 23, 2016.
Phyllis Ruegg

Daughter of the late Claude and Leta Mondragon; beloved wife of the late Dr. William (Bud) Ruegg, O.D.; adored mother to her children: daughter Donna (Les) Aseere; nephew Bill (Marcy) Davis; sons Paul Ruegg, George (Alana) Ruegg, Carl (Rhonda) Ruegg & Mark (Bryony) Ruegg; loving grandmother of Dagan, Delena, Kenny, Kristina, Kaleigh, Rocky & Rosie; sister of Claudia Jaramillo, the late Dolores VanRossum, and Thomas Mondragon; survived by other loving great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. Phyllis was born and raised in Pueblo, CO. In her early twenties, Phyllis began the first of many adventures by moving west to San Francisco. She soon met her future love of her life and husband Dr. William (Bud) Ruegg when she went to have her eyes examined by him. In 1962, they married at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Oakland. They raised their family of six children in the Midtown Terrace district of San Francisco. The family's claim to fame – all six children attended a different SF high school. Professionally, Phyllis was the former rectory secretary at St. Johns Church, SF, and then the business secretary at Valente, Marini, Perata & Co. Phyllis & Bud shared many adventures in their lifetime together, from being part of a square dancing group who represented The City for a goodwill tour of South Korea to an island adventure in Costa Rica and over 20 years of laid back summers at the family camp in Blue Lakes. Forever the good sport and being the wife of a long time NorCal surfer, Phyllis did her time on the foggy & windswept beaches of Kelly's Cove and Pedro Pt. Always impeccably and colorfully dressed, Phyllis was a fashion icon. As a 49er faithful, she was the best dressed and accessorized woman at 49er tailgates. Phyllis performed twice at Candlestick Park halftime events as both an aerobic and square dancer. A true girl's girl, Phyllis loved her friends and organizations from the St. Brendan's Mothers Club, Red Hat Society, Levis & Laces and Women Who Care. A woman of great Catholic faith she was a 50-year active parishioner at St. Brendan. She was a vivacious, fun-loving and caring woman with a zest for life who loved and was loved dearly. We'll remember her always. The Funeral Mass followed by a reception will be celebrated Saturday, October 29, 11 am at St. Brendan Church, 29 Rockaway Ave. SF 94127.

Phyllis was the greatest friend, and the most fun loving. I will never forget the one time she and I attempted to sing "Alla en el Rancho Grande" in one of our campfire gatherings at Blue Lakes. We dissolved in laughter by the second line!.
My husband Dave and I will always treasure our memories of her!
