OLD CHATHAM Phyllis Wiegand Tilson, former treasurer and member of the board of directors of the Old Chatham Hunt Club and also of the Shaker Museum, died on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, N.Y. after a brief illness. She was 93. An Old Chatham resident since 1953, she was an active participant in community affairs. She served in the Old Chatham Improvement Association and the Garden Club of Kinderhook, N.Y. A Bryn Mawr College graduate, she also volunteered in the Bryn Mawr Book Club of Albany for many years. For many years she was associated with Isabel French Realty. Born in New York City, March 21, 1909, she was married to Paul Tilson, until his death in 1986. In 1982, they celebrated their Golden Anniversary in a surprise ceremony at the Columbia County Country Club. She was the only child of the well known American landscape artist, Gustave Wiegand, whos paintings are on display in the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake and other New York Museums. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Piotrow of Bethesda, Md. and Ann Burnham of Cherry Hill, N.J.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. From 1940 until 1953, she lived in Summit, N.J. and participated actively in amateur theatrical productions and the work of Calvary Episcopal Church. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at 12 noon in St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Kinderhook, N.Y., followed by lunch at the Old Chatham House. In lieu of flowers, friends may send a contributions to the Columbia Greene Humane Society, 125 Humane Society Road, Hudson, NY 12534.
