Pierre sat to my right along the counter top wall' of desk chairs and typewriters in the X34 newsroom in Ft. Pierce, Florida. My first impression of Pierre was that he was keenly aware of everything going on around him, but at the same time his mind was off in a universe no one else could see. That's the genius of creativity.

While he was totally capable of completing his video vision all on his own, he delighted in sharing the process with me by asking, OK how does this sound? And he would read lines of copy aloud to see if I would laugh or look at him in wonder. Then he'd be back at the typewriter immediately editing the script. He didn't really know how to type. But, his hunt and peck method was at lightning speed. Thank goodness because he was often the bane of the show producer's existence, Pierre!!! We need your scripts! Pierre! We need your package!

Oh, there was magic in the editing room too. I don't remember Pierre ever sitting next to the editor. He was more like a conductor standing with his baton giving directions with total authority but with a willingness to change directions at any moment there seemed to be a problem. By the way, there were always problems with those damn video editing machines. Tapes were eaten and it always started with a sickening crunching sound as the tape was dragged into the teeth of the machine.
Pierre knew exactly when to hit stop and deftly remove the cassette to save the day.

Always the inventive soulone day Pierre came to work and whispered to me that he couldn't get into his apartment complex laundry room or something so he decided to wash his socks on the top rack of the dishwasher!!! He said they weren't quite dry yet, but he made it to work on time with clean socks. I asked him why he hadn't just washed them out in the sink with some soap. He replied, Oh I hadn't thought of that.

Well, Pierre we are all thinking of you now. And I for one will never look a dishwasher again without thinking of my smart, funny, talented friend.
Rest in peace Pierre.

All of my thoughts and prayers for his family and friends,

Carolyn

I have known Pierre since high school. He was always interested, interesting, fun and kind. No matter how much time elapsed between communications, we always picked up right where we left off. I was so happy he was able to spend Thanksgiving 2014 with me, some of my family and friends. I loved him dearly and will miss him always. Until we meet again, dear friend .....

Pierre understood the power and the value of stories, of words and images. And knew how it was done. And the greatest friend anyone could have. I miss his laugh.

Sorry to learn of the death of Pierre. Although I never met Pierre, I worked with his mother and father on genealogy of the Kimsey family. My husband was Isaac Melvin Kimsey Jr.
