My daughter was born with her throat not connected to her stomach. She had successful surgery the same day she was born by Doctor de Vries and she went on to live a normal healthy life eventually becoming a star figure skater with Ice Capades for five years. God bless you Doctor de Vries and thank you for giving us our daughter to love ! We Love you. Her name was Debbie Lamerdin.

He saved my son's life, time and time again. His surgical skills and bedside manner were stellar. I am saddened to learn of his passing. My son is now in the Ph.D program at UCSC in AI, with interest in bioinformatics and DNA cloning. Dr. deVries was and will always be my hero.

A young mom and her 3 year old son traveled to San Francisco Childrens Hospital in 1966, and Dr. de Vries performed the complicated and rare surgery to correct the baby's Herschprung's disease. He grew up to be a strong, healthy man, now father of his own two grown sons. A thousand thanks, Dr. DeVries, from that mom and that little boy!

I was thinking of how fortunate we were to have know and benefitted from Dr. deVries talent. With a grateful heart I write a note of condolence to Dr. deVries's family., although these after his passing. I was a young mom who gave birth to a precious baby boy, on March 17, 1971, at O'Connor Hospital in San Jose. My baby had immediate digestion problems that led to his being referred to Good Samaritan Hospital for X-rays by his pediatrician. The shocking diagnosis was a twisted duodenum and Situs Inversus, explained to me as complete mirror image of his organs. Dr. deVries operated on him the next morning at one week old, and saved his life. My son contracted staph infection in the hospital from the sutures and had to be opened up. Dr. monitored him closely and consistently until he fought off the infection and we could bring him home. At age 3 he swallowed a penny that got stuck in the surgery site at a spot that was thinned. Again Dr. performed surgery and extracted the coin. Again, his amazing surgical expertise and experience saved my son who, now 48 years old has 4 beautiful children and has had no negative effects from his stomach maladies as a baby and youngster. Thank you, Dr. deVries, and thank you, God!

I am so sorry to hear of his passing and the fact that I lost touch with him for so long. He was one of my early mentors in medical school and my surgical residency at UC Davis. He inspired my interest in pediatic surgery, that unfortunately I was unable to follow after he left UCD. I am glad that he has a fruitful career and life after UC Davis. May the warm words found at Isaiah 40:29 help ease the pain you are feeling. Know that you can lean upon God for strength in these trying times.
